I was in the organic section of the supermarket today, and saw a bag of pure guar gum for only $3.50. I know that benefiber is pure quar gum as well, but it is partially hydrolysed. I asked the pharmacist as she said that partially hydrolysed means broken down. So my question is, is the pure guar gum equivalent to benefiber, or would it be harder on the system? Any budding chemists out there?

Nope - if it's not hydrolized it has a super high viscosity, which means new

that you will be unable to drink it without choking, because such a tiny amount will gel any liquid.
