I am recovering from a severe Breakdown and have recently, after many tests and numerous cameras!! been diagnosed as having IBS. I am trying to follow "Eating For IBS" but find that any stress triggers a violent reaction with my IBS. Would following an intensive detox therapy help? I will try anything!!! brenton@brentonwilliams.com

Hi, and welcome to the boards.
I would try yoga to relieve some stress and stick with the diet. Yoga is said to also help digestion.
Hope this helps.

Brenton, Welcome to the Eating for IBS Diet board! You may want to check the research library section. There was an article recently about how anxiety, stress, depression, etc. are linked to IBS. I have had depression and panic attacks in the past, and now have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder (manic depression.) I know sometimes a small dose of an antidepressant will help with IBS symptoms. If you are not already taking one, maybe you could talk to a doctor about this? I know they have helped a lot of people with IBS. Do a search on the boards for "antidepressants in the treatment of IBS."

I was on Zoloft for a couple years for depression (grief of a lost loved one) and it helped my IBS, too. I was on a very low dosage. You might ask your doc about it.

I took Wellbutrin for a few years and just a month or 2 ago my dr switched me to Lexapro, both are anti-depressants. I find that they help alot. Let your dr know if you are C or D because certain drugs work better depending on which IBS you have. I would really ask your dr about it!

Welcome! I'd really suggest you look into the IBS hypnotherapy program. It could be super helpful for the anxiety, stress, and related IBS attacks. There's a hypno board on this site and also info here web page

Thank you Heather, here in England you feel isolated with IBS especially as a man, as the subject is virtualy taboo. Friends and even my partner dont understand and think it is all in the mind. I will definately keep in touch with your support group.
Once again Thank You
Brenton

Thanks Lana marie,
I am prepared to try anything. Here in England IBS is a Taboo subject especially as a man so any help is welcome.
Who is "Martha Stewart" I am probably making a fool of myself here.
Thank you
