Louise - portion control is one of the BIG KEYS to losing weight and being healthy with eating for IBS. If you didn't watch the size of your portions, you'd be eating hundreds of MORE calories, than if you measured out your portion. Also, if you ate too much, it might trigger an IBS response. Remember, if takes your brain 20 minutes after you stop eating to know that you're full. So, don't eat until you feel full, because then it's too late and you've eaten too much. Does this make sense?

Or didn't I understand your question???? Sometimes I get thick, you know, even tho I'm a brunette!!!

Hi - In a nutshell, if you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. Fats are the most calorie-dense foods (9 calories per gram) but carbohydrates and proteins still have calories too (4 calories per gram). It doesn't really matter so much where your calories come from in terms of weight loss or gain - if you eat more than you expend through physical activity, you'll store those extra calories as body fat.

Sharon is right - portion control is key. So is exercise.

Best,
Heather

Thanks Sharon. Yes, you make perfect sense. It is just that when I have an upset (the runs) I fell extra hungry. Like, saturday. I didn't have enough to eat and gthe n had something I SHOULDN'T have for supper and had the runs. But mostly, I shall make an effort to watch my portions. :)
