I was wondering if any of the C folks who have been around a while have tried the apple juicing recommendation that Heather's husband posted on this link? If so, did it work? Is it better to peel the apples, or use them whole?
How many drinks did you do a day. Will recommends 2 to 3 which is like 8 to 12 apples! How big should the apples be? They usually sell them in small and large size.
I don't really have the money to buy a juicer, but if this works, then by all means, I'll put it on a credit card and do this.
It's a long thread, so look for Will's and Heather's posts for the apple remedy. There are about 4 of them altogether by both Will and Heather. I would love to hear feedback on this natural constipation remedy!
Okay, here's the thread boo on constipation

I've never seen this thread. I just took a look. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I don't have a juicer either, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried the Granny Smith apple juice. I agree with you, Beth. If juicing is that helpful, I'd be inclined to try it!!

I haven't tried it Beth, but it sounds like it really helps. I don't think it would hurt for you to give it a try.

I know apples have both a high fructose and sorbitol content. And I know both those are triggers for IBS. So that worries me. Especially since it's a lot of apples in a day.
Heather says they can be peeled or unpeeled apples, so if anyone has tried this or is planning on trying this, let us know if you peeled or left unpeeled and how many times in a day you did it!
I wonder is this is something you do everyday or just when when desperate?

Sorbitol is an artificial sweetener!!! So it's NOT in apples.

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol that is present in fruits/vegetables to varying degrees. It is also commercially produced as an "artificial" sweetener, but unfortunately has a laxative effect for many.

Some fruits are high in natural sorbitol.
This is one portion from one of the several articles I have read on the subject.
"BLOATING SUGARS Some fruits contain the sugar sorbitol, which if consumed in excess can cause gas, bloating, and diarrhea. The fruit highest in sorbitol is the prune (thus the laxative effect), followed by pears, then cherries. Peaches and apples contain a tiny bit of sorbitol. Some candies are sweetened with sorbitol. Citrus fruits contain no sorbitol."
Most people think of it as only an aritifial sweetner, but it does also occur naturally in fruits.

I peeled my apples. It made cleaning the juicer easier, and my apples were not organic. And BTW, you don't need an expensive juicer. I think I paid $50 for a Waring brand one at either Sam's Club or Costco. It's been able to handle anything I've wanted to juice to date. My fav juice is a blend of carrot and pineapple, with a little SFS first of course.
Oh, if you try the apple trick, MAKE sure it is on an empty stomach!!!
But yes, it works, so don't be afraid to try it.

How are you! So glad to hear from you!!!
How many times did you drink this in one day? Also, did you use small or large apples. It calls for 4 apples per drink, but doesn't say what size. You know I'm a perfectionist and need specifics!
Also, is this something just for difficult C times or can you do this everyday if you want?
Thanks!

I would be a little concerned that all of those apples (peeled or unpeeled) would become very gassy!!!!!!!!

That's the odd thing about it, it doesn't produce gas. The juice of apples is not known to produce gas, that I know of. The key, I found, is the "empty stomach", which makes you think it would be a trigger even more, but it's not.

Yes, sweetie, we know you are the queen of specifics. Honey just do it, and don't get wrapped around the axle. There is no right way or wrong way. The point is here, it just WON'T work if you DON'T do it. 3,4,5 apples? It doesn't matter, but I think I used 3 very large green apples for a "dose" and did it 2 times a day. One day is all it took, however..I do it occasionally just because I like the taste. I was increasing my SFS at the time so I think at some point they kicked in. As a "C" and I do mean "C", my current daily SFS plus soluble fiber foods brings me up around a total of 30-35 g. of fiber a day (combined soluble and insoluble) which is not a lot compared to some cultures. Also, is this something just for difficult C times or can you do this everyday if you want? You could, if you wanted, do it every day, but you'd get burned out pretty fast, and you wouldn't want to turn into a temporary "D", not to mention you'd start cursing the maker of your juicer for making it a pain to clean.
BTW, this is not new, green apples have always had the popularity of being a known natural laxative. Just ask your grandparents. It's just by taking it in juice form, we with IBS don't have it irritating the gut. Kandee
Thanks!

and it does not cause any problems - d or c - whatsoever. Bottled apple juice sends me running to the bathroom. The freshly juiced kind doesn't bother me at all. So, I wouldn't be worried about drinking it if you're not constipated, or being afraid that it will turn C to D.

You weren't making fun of me because I need "specific" answers. So I have a reputation of being the queen of specifics? That kind of hurt when I read it. I'm also extremly sensitive so maybe I'm taking this too personally. My immediate reaction was to feel hurt, but I know you Kandee, well enough, I think, to know that you would never intentionally hurt anyone.
I'm sorry,I know it drives people crazy, but I have always been this way. From the time I was a little girl mom always told me I should be a chemist because I need to be so exact.

Does that mean before the SFS in the morning as well? Or before any meds? Or can I put my SFS into the juice? Or take the SFS sometime after the drinK?
Sorry so many questions. But was emphasized to do it on an empty stomach so wanted to find out about the SFS as I have gotten into the habit of taking SFS before eating anything. Thanks to whomever knows this answer.
