The only thing I can find in Canada (Ontario) is Metamucil or Psyllium (tiny brown pebbles). I see alot of info on Benefiber or Citrucel - is there a big difference and should I try to find some? FYI - I have IBS-D. Also, I have been trying for 3 weeks to learn to love Peppermint tea, but I don't! I have tried Ginger tea and I like that, are there any others that would be good? (I also HATE Chamomile tea!) Thanks, Leah

Hi Leah, I have had similar frustrations with fiber products in Canada. Citrucel and Benefiber aren't approved for use here and that leaves us with psyllium. How is metamucil for you? My only suggestion is not to use prodiem.. it gave me very sharp and hard stools. My best experience with psyllium is the metamucil biscuits. I have alternating C & D, but for the last couple of months have been pretty stable, I only get attacks now when i do a big no-no.

where in T.O. did you pick up the metamucil biscuits? In a drug store? Maybe I could pick some up! I tried metamucil before & it didn't really agree with me...gas,bloating, and more D.

I just picked them up in a Shoppers Drugmart. (I'm actually in Waterloo right now but moving to TO in August). I've also seen them at Pharma plus. I usually get the Apple Crisp flavour. They actually taste pretty good, the only annoying part is that they kinda stick to your teeth afterward!

Thanks for the input Kenneth - I didn't mention that I use the powdered Metamucil as well as the biscuits. I picked some up last night at an IDA drugstore. I really like them as well, they have become my afternoon snack at my desk! I just wondered if there was any difference between the Metamucil and Benefiber. Metamucil generally works for me, but I've had a bad few days (too much wine at BBQ's!) I think I'm going to start a food diary - sometimes I eat before I think. Leah

It's come up a lot in the past and there is good info for alteratives and where to find them.
For tea, try fennel.

I did a search earlier today, but didn't go back far enough. I just found a reference to Medichest.com - will try them. Thanks. Leah

I have to take Citrucel. It's not sold in Canada so I have to order from CT! It costs so much too. I can't take Metamucil since it made me so sick. I was bloated, had gas, gas pains, gas cramps I thought I was going to pass out it was so severe. I wish Citrucel was sold here. So unfair. I drink fennel, ginger, peppermint, oregano, parsley tea. They are so gross but I have no choice. You can also drink dill, anise tea.
