My IBS is so severe. It's not getting under control. I have to keep myself from crying daily since I feel worse when I cry. I don't know if it will ever get under control. I might be the only one that has it this severe. No one on this board that I know of has it this bad.I'm housebound. Do you know what I can do because I sure don't. I can't find a decent doc here. I really need help badly.

Angel;I feel for you. I felt the same way a few years ago.It does get better. Have you asked your Dr. there if he/she can refer you to a specialist? That is what I ended up doing. Are you IBS D/or C? If you are D maybe your Dr. should put in the hospital for bowel rest. They hook you up to an IV to keep you hydrated.This way your intestines and bowel have a break.Also are you taking anything for your mental state? I really don't think your Dr. should let you go on this way! Talk to him/her again or someone else you can talk to. There is a silver lining! One day at a time!

You shouldn't just have to go on everyday suffering like this. In fact, non-stop pain and bowel dysfunction is not a characteristic of IBS - the diagnostic guidelines depend on pain and bowel dysfunction being intermittent. If there is any way possible to try and find a different GI specialist, perhaps at a teaching university, that may be something to pursue.

Also, since you're housebound, you're not likely to be getting much activity. Exercise is critical not just for good digestive health but also for preventing depression (to the extent that some studies have shown exercise to be as effective as anti-depressant drugs). Depression and bowel function can also be closely linked. So a lack of exercise, and depression, will only worsen your bowel problems, and then things are really in a vicious circle.

If you can get some yoga workout tapes from amazon.com you can use them at home. And if you can try to find a way to get the hypnotherapy tapes, I really think they'll help you. Shawneric posted on the hypno boards for you with Mike Mahoney's email, and noted that Mike tries to make the tapes available to people who have trouble affording them. You might follow up on this.

Hi
I probably got severe IBS from one or two of the eating disorders I got in the past. I don't know if will ever get under control since the eating disorders made me so sick. I do exercise but not tons since I'm so sick. Do you reccomend any specific yoga tapes that are simple? I didn't know depression can make bowels worse. I'm trying to be more positive now and pretending my life is great. I'm going to get the cassettes. Hope they work!

Hi Angel;I hope you are feeling a little better today? Have you tried walking? You don't have to go far! Just to get outside and enjoy the summer,birds singing,sunshine, even walking in the rain.I love walking in the rain..the world looks totally diferent! With walking you can releive your stress and sometimes if you see something else or think about something else you forget all about your IBS and problems even if it is just for a little while. that your body experiences a rush of endorphins (which cause all sorts of good feelings and happiness) when you go outside into the fresh air? Even if you just stand outside your front or back door and breathe, you'll get great benefits.

I have noticed that whenever I feel icky & tired, if I go outside, even if it's just to sit on my front step, I feel better. Guess that explains it. That plus the fact that my dog always comes out with me, and she always brings a smile to my face, so I must be getting a double dose.

When I'm feeling irritated, tired, or grouchy I step outside on our deck at work. I'm sure my coworkers appreciate the slight change in my behavior. I also walk around my backyard when at home. If my neighborhood had sidewalks, I'd take a walk down the block and back.

Hi
I'm drinking parsley tea so i'm feeling a little better since it helps my water retention.
I can't go outside for a walk since I have severe IBS. I hardly have any clothes since I had to get rid of most of my clothes and I'm too sick too fix my hair , put on make-up etc. It's also way too hot and humid too I'd probably pass out.
