i have IBS-D. I am having to travel by air on a weekly basis. I am currently eating oatmeal for breakfast everday and drinking soluble fiber 3X a day. My current strategy is to stop eating almost everything, but oatmeal 2 days before i fly and drinking lots of water. It has worked so far, thank God! Any other strategies out there?

I always have to have an aisle seat near the bathroom or I spend the whole trip obsessing about going to the bathroom. Needless to say I am now very skinny! Any IBS boards for frequent travelers?

Thanks for any replies!

I understand the obsessing about the bathroom. I'm not a frequent traveler but I have traveled recently. I ate a lot fat free saltines before, during, and after my flight until I got home. I also took mints and sucked on them and did breathing exercises. I have IBS-D myself so I also understand the "flight fear."

Hi, and welcome to the board! Use the search button to look for past posts on travel. There have been a lot of them with great suggestions. Take food with you on the flight - safe snacks and easy meals, and peppermint tea bags.

There's also tons of travel info in the First Year IBS book.

I read recently in a mag that pillows and blankets are covered in germs so you can get really sick so don't use any pillows and blankets or you can get really really sick. Imodium helps D.
