i don't know of anyone in my family that has it - but I think I do. my question is is it only genetics that carry it , or is it possible that you can develop it?

but it is also very, very commonly undiagnosed for decades, so you might well have family members who have it but don't know it. I'm also not sure how many generations can carry the gene recessively, so you may have had family members with celiac a ways back and it's just now showing up for you. If you suspect you do have celiac, I'd definitely go ahead and get tested.

Celiac Disease is only genetic. It's generally found in European origins. I have the disease and quite a few of my family members do as well. I suggest going ahead and getting tested. It's worth it.
