Hi,
i just read that you should avoid inversion postures during the first three days of your period. Does anyone know why?
These are some of my favourite postures and I find them particularly helpful for bloating and gas which can be worse during that time.

Hi - I have heard this from several instructors as well. I think the idea is that it's going against the natural body function, which is to expel menstrual fluid. If you're upside down you're fighting that natural process.
There are usually alternative poses to the inversions - sometimes you just place your legs up against a wall, but keep your back and pelvis flat against the floor.
I never used to pay much attention to the "no inversions" rule during my period, but then one day in class when things were otherwise going great I did an inversion and suddenly I got hit hard by menstrual cramps. It really was a shocker as normally yoga does a great job of relieving cramps. So ever since then I've followed that rule.
Sometimes I learn things the hard way.
