For dinner we had...
Tunaburgers
1 medium carrot, coarsely grated 1 small onion, very finely chopped (I used 1 tablespoon onion powder b/c the onion I intended to use had gone, ugh, moldy!) 1 6 1/2-ounce (184 g) can tuna, drained and flaked 2 egg whites 2 tablespoons (30 mL) low-fat mayonnaise (I used low-fat Miracle Whip) 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) fresh bread crumbs 1 teaspoon (5 mL) vegetable oil Salt and pepper
In a medium bowl, mix all the ingredients together, seasoning the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. If you have a food processor, now is the time to use it. The tuna mixture should be very well mushed together or else the burgers will fall apart when you cook them. If you don't have a processor, use a fork and mash like crazy.
By hand, form the mixture into patties.
Place tunaburgers on a preheated barbecue grill, and cook over fairly high heat for about 10 minutes per side, until golden brown. Serve in a bun, with some sliced tomato, mayonnaise, and lettuce (if you can handle these things).
If you prefer to pan-fry the tunaburgers, heat a little vegetable oil in a large skillet (or spray the skillet with nonstick cooking spray), and cook the patties, 10 minutes per side, until golden.
Makes 3 to 4 servings. (We made 3 large patties; I ate one and my boyfriend ate two. He made his into sandwiches with ketchup, while I ate mine with a smidgen of tartar sauce.) --_Clueless in the Kitchen_

I had a pretty similar recipe that called for canned pink salmon instead of tuna. It made a great fast dinner sandwich that was delicious. I'd bet this recipe would work with salmon too if you don't have tuna on hand.

I forgot that I only use white tuna and it really makes it low fat and adds a nice quality to it.

I made these yesterday and they were really good! My Grandma suggested usinng mashed potatos instead of bread- might try that. I covered mine in breadcrumbs so they went crispy on the outside.
Yummy!

I LOVE this recipe! I made these again tonight and thought I'd bump the recipe.
I never use the carrot and the oil. And I just now realized there are TWO egg whites! I've only been using one! Ooops. I also like to add Old Bay seasoning.

I made this recipe for Tunaburgers today for lunch. They were delicious. I had them with a baked potato. I didn't have a grill, so pan-fried them. Thanks, Angene

I think you could. Rachel Ray on the Food Network made shrimp burgers a while back. She used small shrimp, ground half the shrimp, left the other half whole, and mixed both ground and whole into the other ingredients. If you prefer a smoother texture, I'd think you could grind it all up. If you try this, please post how it comes out.
