Hi, I just got Heather's Eating for IBS cookbook. I noticed a lot of recipes with garlic. Garlic has always been a major trigger for me. Any suggestions? How would the recipes taste without the garlic? Thanks.

lisalu - you probably don't have to use the garlic--I reckon it gives the dishes more flavor. How about garlic powder, or can't you handle that either? Can you tolerate lemon juice or other spices or herbs? You could probably substitute them for the garlic.

Hi - Cooking the garlic and combining it with soluble fiber foods usually makes it much more tolerable. If this is still not an option for you, just omit the garlic altogether. You may want to increase the other herbs/spices in the recipe to compensate for the flavor. No need to be bland to be safe!

I cant handle straight garlic, but I CAN handle garlic salt, which is about 50% garlic, 50% salt. Try it, and maybe you'll like........

Thanks, I will try it. In addition, I just went to the store to buy the ingredients for the Chablis chicken and the Chocolate Silk pudding. They sound delicious.

I made the chocolate silk pudding but did the pie instead for Easter dessert and everyone loved it.
