Louise and Amelia - my Mom always preferred glass to plastic, bless her soul! But, then she was around when plastic wasn't! LOL

Actually, I prefer the glass myself. I've already got my jar filled, but I still have a little over half a bag to go. My boyfriend has been slowly killing off a huge jar of pickles since last Sept. I moved the pickles to another container, and now I have the pickle jar soaking. That should leave me close to almost perfect!
Sorry Louise, I have to go with the glass. Personally, I think it looks nicer in my kitchen, I really don't like the idea of the chemicals in my food, and I work at a glass factory, so I HAVE to support it!

Your kitchen sounds like mine! We have a tiny kitchen with zero storage space, so we brought in a 9 foot high bookcase that is now filled with glass jars of dry goods. They look pretty, seal tight (I like canning jars for smaller sizes) and considering I'm a complete klutz I don't break them very often at all. Even with our last big earthquake (which destroyed some buildings just blocks from here) the bookcase didn't topple and we only lost one or two jars. I was amazed!
