Hi everybody - I'm making the subject dish tonight for dinner. It's raining, hailing and about 39 degrees, so I thought this would be a good tummy warming meal. Will let you know how it turned out and how we like it.

Oooohhhhh Heather - I made your Caribbean Black Bean Pumpkin Soup over white rice today for dinner. Well, I though it was okay, but Dan tasted it and pushed his bowl away. I had to reheat some of Chemmegurll's Sweet and Sour Cabbage Stew for him.
Anyway, it wasn't very soupy and was rather thick. Did I do something wrong? It had a very heavy flavor and tasted bitter on the sides of my tongue when I swallowed it. But, remember, I can't smell so my taster is off too!
The only thing I substituted was some lemon zest but I did use lime juice (reconstituted). I also substituted 1/2 tsp Guajillo chile powder and 1/2 tsp New Mexico Mild Chile powder because I don't like regular chile powder. These two chiles are very mild with good flavors.
What did I do wrong????? Also, it's a lot for just two people!!!

Oh, Sharon, I am so sorry. There's nothing worse than taking the time and work to cook something and then hating it.
I don't know why on earth the soup would taste bitter - it sure shouldn't. It is fairly thick - more like a stew than a soup. But the fresh lime juice you add at the end is key - using reconstituted lime juice may have made a big difference there. I don't think using the different chile powders would have mattered as much.
I haven't heard from anyone else who made the soup and had this problem. Dang, I'm really sorry.
