hi, i want to make your gingerbread tomorrow, but my friend who is coming over is allergic to oranges. any substitute for orange juice? can i just use water? thanks

Hmmmm...yes, you could use water. You could also use fresh lemon juice that you've sweetened just a bit with sugar. Or cooled brewed ginger tea (or any spice tea, like cinnamon).

thanks! she is allergic to lemon too, but the tea idea is a good one! i ended up just using water, it was still delicious, but that orange juice definitely adds something!

I don't know why it took me so long to try this, but I finally made it last night. I subsituted lemon ginger tea for the oj and it came out great. It was a big hit with the hubby, I think he's already eaten half of it!
