Marina (the President of the company) told me she wanted to quote my recommendations "with my permission." I never gave it. I didn't know exactly which recommendation she wanted to use, and was afraid of being mis-quoted, as is so often the case.

Also, quite frankly, I'm disturbed at the ordering process. I love this product -- I think it's incredible coffee -- but GETTING it is damn difficult. The closest market to me that carries it is on the farthest end of this State, on the Oregon border. To ship to me, they charge $10, which is the same price as a 10-ounce package of coffee! So, in essence, I pay twice the cost. To order from the company in NYC, it takes TWO WEEKS to get it. The order I got yesterday took 2 weeks + 2 days.

I sent Marina two e-mails to try to find out where my order was, but she didn't respond, and I was, quite frankly, a little annoyed. I undertand that my praises of the product were "nothing short of phenomenal" (her words), so no doubt she was too busy with all the order to answer me. When I sent a third e-mail asking for a reply, she finally did.

Again, I believe in this product, but the company falls short in the ordering department.

I am also amazed that there are so few HFS that carry it. I called my local HFS (30 miles away) to try to get them to market it, but was told a story involving a lot of red tape.

Yes, I saw her newsletter. A lot of those comments were mine, but a lot of them were not. I have to assume those others were from some folks here. I hope they gave their permission.

Bev

I'm glad you saw it, but really sorry they didn't get permission. That was one reason I thought to call your attention to it. I wouldn't mind being quoted on a quality product either, but it seems the company service should match the quality of the product they sell. Sorry that your experience has been negative in that regard.

Well, I don't know how you handle that...all your comments just out in the public with no explanation or permission given. And yes, other comments were from folks here on this board, and it seems the Soyfee folks would have gone to Heather at least before making free stealing our conversations for free advertising!! Glad you saw the letter, but sorry it was so poorly done!

Gotta say, that's a little odd - and she'd better be careful or she could wind up in some serious trouble.

Also have to say, that if someone is using all your comments and you are essentially helping (a lot I might add) to market/sell the product you'd think she would have the decency to send you a bunch FREE or geez at least offer you a discount. How ridiculous....

Ya know, I was thinking the same thing. Soyfee may be the best stuff on earth, but I'm not thinking too highly of Marina right now. Hah. She should definitely be hooking Bev up with free product - or at least free shipping! Sheesh. And she really SHOULD be careful. I think technically she can get in a decent amount of legal trouble for using comments - even from a public message board - without written consent.

Wow, I just went on the Soyfee website and looked under the testimonials page. There are all our comments about Soyfee from this board. They even reference the board so people know where to find our comments and us! Can they do that? I don't know, maybe I'm being a little unreasonable, but I posted for other people on this board to benefit, not to be free advertisement for the product. I'd like to hear what Heather has to say about whether or not this is legal. I know I don't post a lot, but when I do I guess I like knowing my comments are going to stay here.

I definitely can't see how its legal to use comments from a board like this w/out permission. Then again...maybe it is???

Interesting! I looked at the website, and although I don't think it was right for her to use your comments without your permission, it's probably perfectly legal for her do that---as long as she doesn't identify you by name. Now, if she'd used your name without your permission, that would've been another story.
Surely most of you realize that there are tons of people who read the message board but never register or participate in the "chatting." You will have to get Heather to verify this, but I thought she told me there are about 7,000 people a day that read, but never respond to the Eating for IBS message boards.

And you thought it was a small intimate talk you were having? It's a big world out there! The "creepy" incidents that have occurred recently on this board are, unfortunately, a reminder that there are a lot of nuts out there. Now, don't you feel better? Can you picture that peeking Tom looking over your shoulder?

Not to scare anyone, but I used to frequent one of the bigger wedding-related message boards - a board that's actually members-only, as in, you have to be a member to read posts - and still ended up with a stalker. You really do have to be careful, especially on totally-public boards like this one.

And that's my not-quite-on-topic PSA for today. LOL!

Beaglelover is right - she didn't use names and unless you put a disclaimer at the end of your post, there's not much you can do on a public post. If she were to copy and paste text from this site (not the messageboard), then it would be plagerism since I assume there's a copyright listed somewhere (no time to go check).

I completely realize there are a lot of people reading my posts. I have no problem with that, and I hope people benefit from them. But I also feel that I chose to place my posts here, not another website, and especially not to be used as an advertisement for a product. You're probably right, it probably is perfectly legal for her to do so since she didn't use names. It just doesn't feel right to see thoughts I posted here used as advertisement for some product on another web site. I guess I'll just have to watch what I say. I feel bad because I never would have said anything negative about Rocamojo if I'd known it would be used in a competitor's advertisement. I was being honest with you guys that Rocamojo did give my problems. But I know other people on this site like Rocamojo. I hate when advertisements slam other products, I definitely never would have said that if I'd known it would show up in an advertisement.

I don't think anyone should be quoted without their permission, and I don't think quotes should be taken from an unrelated forum without permission from that forum. Soyfee didn't bother to even ask, let alone get, these permissions. That is unprofessional at best and just plain sleazy at worst.

I don't know what power we have to do anything about this, since the folks being quoted weren't named (and neither was this board). They are using us for free advertising, and also to slam their competitors' products, and I don't think they would have done that if they'd realized how poorly it would reflect upon them.

This site, and all of the information and art on it, is copyrighted. There's a copyright notice on the bottom of every page. But whether that extends to someone's stated opinion of a product on the message boards...I really don't know.

Until further notice, I'd suggest that people refrain from additional comments about Soyfee on the board, unless you're willing to have those comments plastered over their website without your permission.

Just as an aside here, if I did give permission for someone to use my site as an endorsement for their product, they'd have to meet some strict advertising criteria and I'd also be announcing their support for IBS all over the boards. And they would not be using anonymous quotes from any of my board posters, or anything else that didn't get the appropriate permissions.

Hmmmph.

I wish to apologize to everyone for this mess. If I hadn't praised the product so much, this wouldn't have happened. My intention was to let you all know about it so you would have a chance to try it yourselves. I did not know Marina would do this.

Why is it that people always surprise me?

Please accept my apologies.

It's not your fault. She's just trying to promote her product. The sad thing is that if she had asked, I would have gladly gave the product a wonderful recommendation. I'm still soooooo happy I can drink "coffee" again, so please don't be upset about all this. I'm still really happy you mentioned this product to us.

Hi Sis,

I don't know why you need to apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. You didn't have any idea this would happen. I wasn't involved in the Soyfee stuff but I give advice about products and stuff I use that might help someone else all the time. Guess it could happen to any of us.

You may have already done this but if you have any contact with Marina I would tell her how you feel. Maybe, I should just go over there and tell her off!!!

Had a rough day at my sister's yesterday.(my other sister...the stress related one) They have a lot of problems and it is dragging me & my mom down. Anyway, I will muddle my way through as usual.

I'm off to do some errands. Check with you later.

The purpose of this board is for people to recommend things that have really helped them out. I'm still grateful for the Equalactin recommendation (and we've praised that to high heaven and THEY'VE never stolen our words).

I wouldn't worry about this situation too much... a legitimate advertising agency WOULD NEVER have behaved like this, and for the most part that's who is responsible for the products we talk about.

I think the deal here is we have a small business run by a thoughtless careless person. I'm sure she just didn't stop to think about how people might feel about her actions, and I'm sure if she reads this she's sorry.

Anyway Bev, I count on your recommendations and I would be sorry if you stifled yourself because of one renegade coffee lady.

A good portion of those comments were mine as well. I am equally upset. I'd like to share my comments with you privately (not to exclude members of the board but to keep from the prying eyes of Soyfee).

My email address is posted, but yours are not. I don't mind leaving mine posted. If both of you would shoot me a quick email at that address (make sure to remove NoSpam), I will reply to you with an email I've just composed. You can then feel free to forward it to anyone else on this board who is interested, but I'd like to keep it off the public board.
Thanks,

No need for you to make apologies. The Soybean drink pusher owes you and everyone here an apology. You were just trying to help others satisfy thier love for coffee, just as you had. This is another form of plaigerism at its best.

I find it hard to spend MY MONEY with people who operate and advertise unethically. Thats just my opinion.

You have done nothing to apologize for, honey pie !!!
