Not to scare anyone, but I used to frequent one of the bigger wedding-related message boards - a board that's actually members-only, as in, you have to be a member to read posts - and still ended up with a stalker. You really do have to be careful, especially on totally-public boards like this one.
And that's my not-quite-on-topic PSA for today. LOL!

Interesting! I looked at the website, and although I don't think it was right for her to use your comments without your permission, it's probably perfectly legal for her do that---as long as she doesn't identify you by name. Now, if she'd used your name without your permission, that would've been another story. Surely most of you realize that there are tons of people who read the message board but never register or participate in the "chatting." You will have to get Heather to verify this, but I thought she told me there are about 7,000 people a day that read, but never respond to the Eating for IBS message boards.
And you thought it was a small intimate talk you were having? It's a big world out there! The "creepy" incidents that have occurred recently on this board are, unfortunately, a reminder that there are a lot of nuts out there. Now, don't you feel better? Can you picture that peeking Tom looking over your shoulder?
Beaglelover is right - she didn't use names and unless you put a disclaimer at the end of your post, there's not much you can do on a public post. If she were to copy and paste text from this site (not the messageboard), then it would be plagerism since I assume there's a copyright listed somewhere (no time to go check). ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

I completely realize there are a lot of people reading my posts. I have no problem with that, and I hope people benefit from them. But I also feel that I chose to place my posts here, not another website, and especially not to be used as an advertisement for a product. You're probably right, it probably is perfectly legal for her to do so since she didn't use names. It just doesn't feel right to see thoughts I posted here used as advertisement for some product on another web site. I guess I'll just have to watch what I say. I feel bad because I never would have said anything negative about Rocamojo if I'd known it would be used in a competitor's advertisement. I was being honest with you guys that Rocamojo did give my problems. But I know other people on this site like Rocamojo. I hate when advertisements slam other products, I definitely never would have said that if I'd known it would show up in an advertisement.

I don't think anyone should be quoted without their permission, and I don't think quotes should be taken from an unrelated forum without permission from that forum. Soyfee didn't bother to even ask, let alone get, these permissions. That is unprofessional at best and just plain sleazy at worst.
I don't know what power we have to do anything about this, since the folks being quoted weren't named (and neither was this board). They are using us for free advertising, and also to slam their competitors' products, and I don't think they would have done that if they'd realized how poorly it would reflect upon them.
This site, and all of the information and art on it, is copyrighted. There's a copyright notice on the bottom of every page. But whether that extends to someone's stated opinion of a product on the message boards...I really don't know.
Until further notice, I'd suggest that people refrain from additional comments about Soyfee on the board, unless you're willing to have those comments plastered over their website without your permission.
Just as an aside here, if I did give permission for someone to use my site as an endorsement for their product, they'd have to meet some strict advertising criteria and I'd also be announcing their support for IBS all over the boards. And they would not be using anonymous quotes from any of my board posters, or anything else that didn't get the appropriate permissions.
Hmmmph.
