Would ground flaxseed be an appropriate substitute for psyllium based fiber suppliments? My understanding is that flaxseed is naturally a 50/50 split between soluable and insoluable. I'm am worried this will make it a trigger, or not as affective as metamucil... Any advice?

Hi - I haven't heard of using the ground flaxseed as a sub for a soluble fiber supplement, but I have heard wonderful things about it in general. If it's finely ground, and you add it to a soluble fiber base like oatmeal or pasta, it should be just fine. And it is very good for bowel function. I'm just not sure I'd want to eat it alone on an empty stomach, whereas I'd feel very confident doing that with one of the pure soluble fiber supps like Citrucel or Benefiber or Fibercon.

Best,
Heather
