Is cilantro a "no-no"?

I was reading in the recipe boards and someone called cilantro "dreaded"! I am interested in knowing how it affects you all on the boards. I use cilantro all the time...I wonder if I quit using it I would be better?

I eat it all the time in moderation. I saw a seed packet at walmart for cilantro and it said it is to help diahrrea...hmmm, probably not for IBSer's but it may for normal people. It is in some of Heather's recipes. But like anything, it may set some people off for an attack.

I don't use cilantro very often... meaning that when I do, I think I'd notice a difference pretty plainly if it was a no-no, and I've never noticed such a thing. I'm inclined to say that it's ok, but of course, trust the word of the more experienced people over me, I'm kind of a newbie to all this.

More likely, though, I'm guessing that that person has problems with cilantro, personally. I have problems with oregano, for example - can't stomach the stuff - but I know most people have no problems with it at all.

That was me. I hate cilantro and think it tastes like soap. I mean I really hate the stuff. So my calling it dreaded was just being overdramatic. I do that sometimes because I am a writer.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Like all fresh herbs, it's insoluble fiber - it's also very good for you... new

so treat as other insoluble fiber foods and eat it, but carefully (remove stems, finely shred leaves, add to soluble fiber foods, etc.)

BTW, it's a genetic thing that makes some people taste cilantro as "soapy". My cousin has that problem. So those folks tend to really loathe the herb. But if you like it, there's no IBS need to avoid it!

I can't STAND cilantro! YUK! I can taste it instantly in any food -- and I'll pass.
