Dearest Heather,

Ijust recently bought both your book (the one with 175 recipe and firs yr of IBS) and it has been so wondeful reading and learning about IBS in such depth. you have really done an amazing job with both this book.

i am reading this book as my dad has been recently diagnios for IBS. he is coming over to my place for a holiday next week. i am really worried as i have some major concerns and i hope u can help me address them. so here they are ..........

1. my dad has IBS and he is also diabetic and he is vegetarian. i looked ay many of your bread recipes n they all call for egg whites. can u tell me what susbtitue can i use for egg white . n also is there is any substitue for the sugar .

2. he has lost about 15 kg of weight due his recent IBS attack. so what can i give him to gain some energy. is there enegery drinks u can tell me which is again IBS safe.

3. also i am looking for vegetarian sandwhich recipes .

4. i have a question about your peppermint green tea (on og 43 of u recipe book). it calls for green tea powder. i went to my health food store n there were so many choices of green tea powder. which type of green tea powder should i buy?

5. n lasty , we are travelling to las vegas over the look weekend . i am really worried as to what can he out (ie in restaurant ) while we are in vegas . n can u suggest what food can i carry along with me on the trip.

thank u so much for ur help n your books have been a blessing from heaven for me .

Hi Monica,

I'm not Heather but maybe I can hopefully help you out by answering your questions.

1) "my dad has IBS and he is also diabetic and he is vegetarian. i looked ay many of your bread recipes n they all call for egg whites. can u tell me what susbtitue can i use for egg white . n also is there is any substitue for the sugar."

Try using flaxseed as a substitute for the eggs. Check out this past post for information: web page. As for the sugar, experiment with leaving this out and finding flavor in other things. One of the gals from the boards makes a Super Free Apple Bread so it is possible to modify some of the recipes.

2) "he has lost about 15 kg of weight due his recent IBS attack. so what can i give him to gain some energy. is there enegery drinks u can tell me which is again IBS safe.

Unfortunately a lot of energy drinks contain dairy products. Check out this past post for ideas about homemade energy drinks: web page.

3) "also i am looking for vegetarian sandwhich recipes"

Do a search on this with no time restrictions. If you can't find any, try posting your question on the IBS Recipe Board.

4) "i have a question about your peppermint green tea (on og 43 of u recipe book). it calls for green tea powder. i went to my health food store n there were so many choices of green tea powder. which type of green tea powder should i buy?"

Try finding a decaf green tea powder for the recipe. Many of the green tea powders contain a lot of caffine since you're basically eating the whole leaf instead of just brewing it.

5) "n lasty , we are travelling to las vegas over the look weekend . i am really worried as to what can he out (ie in restaurant ) while we are in vegas . n can u suggest what food can i carry along with me on the trip."

Again, try doing a search on "travel tips" with no time restrictions and you'll find a bunch of tips that IBSers have used when traveling.

Hope this helps!
