Back to the mundane - what do I do with all this TEA?

Hi all,
I've been reading all of the posts since I've been gone and apologize for posting a trivial question in light of the other things going on. I got my order of peppermint and fennel tea from Heather several days ago. I was amazed at the size of the bags! WOW! I haven't used them yet, because I am afraid to open them until I know what to do to store the rest of the bag! Please advise, because I really want to try this stuff and am afraid if I just fold the bags over, they will lose potency in the humid summer atmosphere. What do you all do?

I put the peppermint and fennel in Mason jars (used for canning) they seal it up tight. In Southern California we have a huge ant problem in the summer months so I try to keep everything in ziploc bags or airtight containers.

I keep most of mine in plastic tubs with lids. But it's okay with just a clip on the bag (but then I don't get your weather!).

Hi Susan!

I use large glass jars, the kind with the metal clamp and rubber gasket that seals it air-tight.

This subject was brought up a couple months ago, and Heather said she uses Zip-Loc bags. They don't need refrigeration, though, and actually keep quite well.

Enjoy!

The teas are in large quantities so people feel free use them often and use them generously. Try a good 1-2 tablespoons per cup, and drink several cups every day. that will get you through the bags at a faster rate than you'd suspect.

I store my open bags (and we're working on getting re-sealable bags so this won't be an issue) inside a ziploc freezer bag. I'm in a temperate climate, but if it was hot and humid I'd probably keep just a week's worth or so in the ziploc bag, and put the rest of it in another ziploc freezer bag and freeze it, then take out and use as needed.

Thank you all for your answers and YES I am drinking them! I'm glad to hear that you can freeze some. I'll definitely do that and hope the kids don't think they've found some stash of illegal matter!

Hey Susan,

I don't know WHERE in Vermont you are, but have you ever been to your infamous Teddy Bear Factory in Shelburne? I love to watch them make bears. My favorite was adopted from there.

We almost ended up living in Vermont; hubby was offered a job as rowing coach for the University, but I needed surgery at the time and couldn't go back. Damn.

I love Vermont; beautiful country. I spent all my summers in Maine; daddy had a cottage on Lake Kezar near the N.H. border.

Okay, I'm rambling now -- I hate it when that happens.

Bev - yes I live in NW Vt in the vicinity of the Teddy Bear Factory. Typical local - drive by it all the time and watch the tourists going in, but have never been in myself. My housesitter works there. Shame on me.

Yes, Vermont and Maine are lovely - this time of year! Today was one that you wanted to not end. But then there is November through April. My husband and I are hoping to move to NC in a couple of years when the youngest (stepson) graduates from HS.

Washington State is even better (except maybe for the rain). My brother and wife live north of Seattle in Mt. Vernon. Now that's God's country. Where are you?

Now I'm rambling, too. Are you a TB collector?

You BET I'm a collector! LOVE the bears.

Mt. Vernon isn't far from me. The lady who does finishing on knitted garments is there. I love to knit, but hate the finishing!

Actually, I'm on the Canadian border; I could almost walk across.

You talk about our rain. I'll let you in on a little secret, Susan -- but don't tell anyone. The fabulous weather up here is the world's best-kept secret. It's the same as the weather in B.C., obviously, we're just a mile down the street. Nothing like the weather in Seattle. They get all the rain. (Sorry Heather and Shell.) While we do get rain, it's only for a day; the next day it's clear and sunny and GORGEOUS! We never get any humidity whatsoever, and the hottest it ever gets is 75. In the winter, just a day or two of snow, no more. I LOVE it here!

I miss my beloved loons -- BUT we have the most incredible Canadian geese. They fly overhead in a "V" formation while squawking. It's absolutely beautiful to see -- I go running out on my deck when I hear them. Okay, so they're not as great as the loons, but I'll take what I can get.

We used to go back to the annual rowing camp in Raymond (Maine), and row WITH the loons. It was pure heaven for me, reminiscent of my childhood on the lake. Ah well, the good ole days ...

Okay, now I'm REALLY rambling! Sorry.

Bev,
I have a feeling our correspondence should be in the Living Room, but don't know how to bump us there.

I am envious of your weather. We are planning to move to NC in a few years, and after reading your post I talked to my husband about the NW. Response was too far from the kids and family - good point.

We have Canadian Geese and snow geese that fly overhead also. We are 2 houses from Malletts Bay and so they come flying in for the night - both fall and spring. I'll hear them and run out to the deck and they fly so low overhead I can see their feathers. You are right - it so cool!
I've become a big bird watcher. I have a nest of robins in my front porch hanging planter. They are getting big and I expect they will fledge any day now. It's been so fun watching the whole process - despite my poor plant suffering at times for water and need of dead heading. I walk my dog everyday on a path that takes us through an area that has tons of migrating birds. It's great until the leaves come out and you can't really see them anymore. The path then takes us out on a causeway over Lake Champlain and we see all the herons and other water birds as well as NY mountains and VT mountains - it's awesome. If only we didn't have winter!

I just ordered some of the soy coffee you recommended. Poor Patrick (husband) is getting a bit overwhelmed with my containers of tea and such. Wait until he pours a cup of soy coffee. With his taste buds, he probably won't notice until he comes home with a headache from caffiene withdrawal.
