I had been taking Fiber Con supplements for some time and decided to try to switch over to Acacia. I took a small dose of Acacia, I believe one teaspoon (I think it was a measuring spoon) and shortly afterwards experienced cramps and bloating. The uncomfortable sensations lasted for a few days. Should I try again? Maybe it was just a fluke. Input from Heather would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would advise trying a smaller amount next, like 1/4 teaspoon, then wait a couple of days to see how you feel. If you still have problems, you might have to try a different fiber supplement, as we all seem to react differently to different ones.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I started with one measuring teaspoon 2x day and I had some mild cramping and bloating for about 2 days. Once it went away, I felt tons better! I noticed that when I increased my dosage by a teaspoon (have done this twice now) it happened again the same way. The discomfort passed once my body adjusted. I understand we're all very individual when it comes to our soluable fiber choices, but I don't think you could ever pry me away from acacia now! Hope you feel better soon.

and make sure you're using a measuring teaspoon (not a teaspoon that you'd eat with). Level off the measurement. Try starting with just 1/2 tsp a day (or even 1/4 tsp). Fibercon is so low in fiber that odds are your gut isn't used to much soluble fiber yet, so you'll have to start the Acacia gradually and increase slowly. It shouldn't cause cramps, though. If it causes bloating that means you've started too high or increased too fast. Slow and steady is the way to go.

Thanks for the responses. I will start with 1/4 tsp. Should I continue with the Fiber Con caps as well until I build the acacia dose up or stop the fiber con caps now?
Also, how many days should I remainat 1/4 until I go to 1/2 tsp.?

1/4 teaspoon is just under a half gram, which is the same dosage as one Fibercon capsule. Start out with the same dosage as you were on with the Fibercon, no more. Then in a few weeks you can try a little more. If you get gas and bloating, cut back for awhile, then try again.

It takes awhile -- but you're not in any hurry.

We all react differently to the various types of SFS. If one doesn't work well for you, try another.

Thanks, Bev. But here's the deal. I've been taking 8-10 fiber con capsules a day. I can't take that equivalent in Acacia because when I tried 1 tsp. I felt bloated. One tsp of acacia would be equal to only 4 capsules of fiber con. I'm confused. I also need to know if I start very slowly with the Acacia (1/4 tsp.) a day, do I keep taking the fiber con as well? Maybe Heather could help with this?
