Missy Mags and I were talking last night, and we happened to get onto the subject of the correct dosage for our soluble fiber supplement. She takes Citrucel, I take Acacia.

Anywho.... Mags claimed that 1T = 2 grams. I said she was wrong, it's 1T = 2.25 grams. To prove I was right, I pulled out an unopened package of Heather's Acacia, turned it over to the back side, and got the shock of my life!

1T = FIVE GRAMS! EEEK! I've been taking too much SFS! No wonder I'm having extreme gas, urgency and unexpected D attacks in the fabric store and Post Office! And I was beginning to increase it even MORE! YOWZA!

Today, I didn't take any SFS at all, needless to say, and what a pleasure -- I have NO GAS for the first time in months! No poops either (VERY rare for me!), but I'm such a happy camper .....

SO, guys, check the proper dosage on your SFS. I'm guessing that the concentrations are different for each kind.

Think I'll go back to the fabric store now.....

The amount of soluble fiber for each supplement varies in terms of grams per tablespoon. Ya just always have to check the back label. I do have much of the info posted in the supplements section of the site here Soluble Fiber Supplements but there are so many varieties of Metamucil and Citrucel and they all vary, so I only have a few of those in the list.

Yeah, Barbie, LS and Heather,

I FEEL FABULOUS! What a great day! No cramps, no poops, no gas, no bloating, no urgency -- I'm a happy camper! I feel like my old self again! Damn, it's goooooood.

Fabric store? Nah. I think tomorrow I'll head out to the nursery and check out some native ferns. No bathroom there? No problem!

Heather recommends you work up to 12-15grams per day, so tablespoons of Acacia is good at 15g. Don't take more than that tho!

Oh, Bev, you do do EVERYTHING at 120% don't ya? You just take it easy okay? And go check out some plants for me...I really want to get to grips with my new jungle of a garden, but there's still loads of decorating to be done inside. Maybe I'll go buy a shed and a lawnmower tomorrow before the grass gets up to the windows!

Yeah, I hear ya.

I'm a D too, Ashley. I just think 3T is too much for me. No, I KNOW that 3T is too much for me. I went without the stuff for 24 hours, and I gotta tell ya, I had NO gas, NO bloating, NO urgency, and NO poops. It was HEAVEN! But I know I can't do that every day; I have to have the SFS. This morning I'm having 1T, and tonight I'm having 1T. That's 10g./day. That's a lot less than I was having. I'm gonna see how I do with that dosage, and if I don't do well I'll drop it back even more.

Like Heather says, people's level of tolerate varies. While our goal is 12-15g/day, you just have to work up to whatever level works for you. Mags is real comfortable at 8g/day. and says she doesn't feel well at anything more than that. (I think she's a D also?)

2t/day isn't much -- so I'd SLOWWLY work up to at least 3 and see how you do. If you do fine, then increase it more. If not, then you've found your level of tolerance.

Oh, Girlfriend, get yourself out there! The inside decorating can wait. This gorgeous weather may not last, ya know, so ya gotta make hay while the sun shines!

There's nothing more peaceful or satisfying than sitting in the dirt, slowly pulling weeds, squishing worms between the fingers . . .

How much acacia do you take then? What should be the max? 3T a day like it says on the package? I take 2T + 1 tsp right now. Is 2T a day enough?

I was up to 3T/day and increasing it. That's too much for me. It caused bloating, gas, URGENCY -- not a pretty picture -- but I was over the maximum of 15g/day when I started increasing it. That's too much.

"What would be the max" is what your body can tolerate, no more. Obviously I reached my max, and I think I had reached it before I got to the 15g/day, because I had been having a LOT of gas and uncomfortable bloating (and occasionally unexpected urgency at the worst times). What I have to do is drop back on my dosage and find my limit. I had 1T this morning, and I was okay for awhile, but then experienced a little gas and bloating. So tomorrow I think I'm gonna try 2t in the morning and 2t in the evening and see how I do. Seems that should be a little gentler on my system.

While 2T/day sounds reasonable, I don't think it is for me. However, what's max for me ain't necessarily max for you. You might be able to tolerate more than I can. For example, Mags tolerates no more than 8g/day, while I think Linzy said she tolerates 10g/day.

How do you feel with 2T+1t/day? Any gas, bloating, cramps, URGENCY? If not, I'd say you're good to go! But if so, then I'd cut back a little. Really, I don't know of any other way to determine what your own tolerance level is.

Bev

Is the recommendation 12-15 gms of SFS per day or total fiber from ALL sources? I get 3-4 gms of fiber with breakfast oatmeal, around 6 gms from two pieces of my Orowheat Winterwheat bread for lunch (love the stuff full of nutty things and doesn't hurt me) and usually have one those individual little natural applesauce containers, 2 gms for a snack and two tablespoons of benefiber per day which is 3 gms each so that all combined is 18 gms total fiber, not even counting anything I may eat for dinner. Works well for me, FINALLY. No more C with this regiment and still being very careful of what I eat. Since I've been regulated for the past month I've only had two minor crampy episodes that didn't last too long and NO "D". Geez, I hope this lasts as I'm almost afraid to say it and jinx myself.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. When I got to the level I felt good at and stayed feeling good, that's when I quit upping my level. I take 2 T of Citrucel Clear Mix 2 times a day (4 T total daily).

According to the package, it says 1 scoop (1 heaping tablespoon) = 2 grams of fiber. Well, according to that, I don't know exactly how many grams I take, but I know I feel good at 4 T a day, so I'm not messing with it!
