Hey everyone The other day I bought this Tai Chi noodles, which didnt seem to have any bad ingredients- no milk or dairy, very low fat, but it did have this packet of spices. I added a very small amount of the spices not thinking that there was anything bad in them. I felt soo sick afterwards and two days later, my stomach is still burning. Doesnt Heather use spices in her cookbook? Was it just too spicy for my stomach to handle? Is anything spicy bad? Thanks for any help!

Hi,
I'm pretty bad with spices, or spicy foods. I don't put pepper and very litttle, if any, salt in my meals. If I go out, I check to see if the foods have the ingredients that are safe. For example, I bought vegetarian spring roles but then I opened them up and they were covered in lots of peppers. The taste was too much for me even though I used to enjoy spring rolls. Now, I just stick with herbs. For take out foods, I don't get them anymore or cook my own. I haven't fully read the cookbook, but maybe the Tai noodles was too spicy for you. Everyone has a different tolerance for foods. Good luck:)

Allison, that's really too bad that the spices affected you so much. Yes, Heather uses spices in her cookbook. And, no, it's not true that anything spicy is bad. However, obviously those particular spices didn't agree with you this particular time! They might have had MSG as a hidden ingredient. You might have an undiagnosed acid reflux problem that spices would aggravate. It's hard to know for sure.

Once your tummy settles down and you're ready to try again, maybe you could add your own spices in small amounts and experiment to find out what you like and what you don't.

Anyway, feel better!

There are tons of herbs and spices out there, and most are not "spicy" new

In fact, most herbs/spices are digestive aids. Do a board search for capsicain, with no time limits, and you'll find past posts on this exact topic.

Careful - I've often found that spice packages like these that often come with noodles and rice and things like that have hidden milk ingredients, and sometimes the ingredients of the spice packages aren't listed on the packages. Just a thought! Hope you're feeling better.
