of certain foods? I am terrified to eat lettuce of any kind because that is what would always make me so sick before, granted I ate salads all the time! I was just curious if any certain foods scare anyone else! I did have a little lettuce on my Subway sandwich today and it tasted great...and settled well so far!

I love watermelon, but for some reason if I eat it I get really bloated. Eating to much of it, gives me "D", just like cucumbers.

Definitely! I am scared of TONS of food! Mainly greens and some fruits like oranges, watermelon, strawberries. Im with ya on the salad too, before I ate it with EVERY single meal and now I dont even eat it. I guess its the whole greens thing and then on top of that some kind of dressing that is always full of dairy and fat! But ya Im definitely scared of food!

Whole-wheat is my worst fear food. I had my worst attack with that and fainted while driving. I won't touch it now.

Thanks for all those who replied. I was just curious! I feel so paranoid anymore. I know a lot of you said that you are afraid of going out to eat. This is one thing that terrifies me! I am still in the "I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone about my 'condition'" stage! I hate to speak up, I am just generally a very quiet person, so I have a bad habit of telling someone I can't eat what they are offering! I even hate asking for restaurants to specialize stuff. Will this fear pass? I am not even comfortable talking to my boyfriend abou this and we have been together a long time now! I just need to get over it...it is my life now!
Anyways...I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Hi amitchell! I get SO scared. For a while I avoided food all together because I was in so much pain and scared of it making it worse. It's hard to push memories of bad sensations and experiences behind you. I'm still scared even when I look at the safe recipes and food. I would say I'm paranoid, but it probably just takes time for that fear to be less intense - maybe w/ some positive experiences. I hope it happens sooner than later for you I really feel for you! Good luck!

Yep, I'm still afraid of my greens, too. I only eat lettuce on sandwiches, and even then very sparingly. I just recently had tiny helpings of green beans and asparagus for the first time in over 6 months, and lucky they settled well. I won't even touch broccoli, though, because I had terrible experiences with it.
But there's good news.... since starting hypnosis I'm getting braver! It has really helped reduce my anxiety about food (although I know I still have a long way to go). It might be something to think about!

Of course we do, and that fear may last a long time. There were so many foods I wouldn't touch for over a year. If you condition your body to those foods by eating a very, very small amount, over time increasing those amounts ever so slowly you'll suprise yourself when once again you can eat a small salad (at the end of a meal that soluble fiber based). It took me forever to be able to eat beans. I started out with one teaspoon, that's teaspoon not tablespoon, at a time and slowly added another teaspoon and yet another until I could eat a half cup serving. You're wise eating just a little lettuce on a sandwich for now.

Me too Jasperlovel. I've finally decided to just get past the embarrassment and tell them I have a digestive disorder and can't eat lots of foods - for meats I can eat plain chicken or plain red meat (I know red meat is on the no no list but it doesn't bother me) Sometimes I bring a potato to throw in their microwave just in case. (I can also manage a low amount of mayo on it with seasonings). And now since being here I've found a few easy to buy desserts to bring along so I don't have to sulk while they eat their dairy laden desserts. I will bring either my Tofutti Cutie ice cream sandwiches or my mango sorbet. It's easier to tell a friend beforehand than to get there and be faced with cheese covered greasy mexican food or some other greasy delight. Where I have the worst times still is in large groups at restaurants where I really dont know everyone in the group and there is NOTHING on the menu that sounds safe. It embarrasses me to ask the waitress or waiter in front of everyone all these questions. Seems like everyone stops talking and just looks at me with the 'eye rollin' action. Then when you get waitresses that don't know what dairy means or just "guesses" and says, no, that makes me nervous. I've had to get up right in the middle of the meal with cramps and tell my husband we have to go right NOW!

Gerry, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!? I've been thinking about you and wondering if I remember you posting anything about going on a vacation -- you've been gone forever!
How are you? Here I am, in the middle of the night, and you're not here. Matter of fact, there's NO ONE here. I'm the only one on line. Kinda spooky....
Thanks for the compliment. By the way, when do we get to see YOUR picture?

Yep, pretty much all food gives me some concerns. I haven't got anything under control yet, and still get sick on that 'What to eat when you can't eat anything' diet, so I get all nervous before pretty much every meal. I am hoping it'll just pass.

Oh Heavens yes, I'm still afraid to eat a salad, even though some say it is safe to try after you've eaten all your solubles. I loved salads and the bigger it came I ate it all. I just had to make brocolli casserole for Easter for my husband's family. That about killed me, I had to make it the way they like it and I use Cheez Wiz.....I used to eat Cheez Whiz by the spoon, I was very good this time, didn't touch it. Also I had to make banana pudding, but I made it with my special milk, reduced fat nilla wafers and fat free cool whip. I'm hoping for a nibble!!! So pretty much everything except, a potato, rice or pasta scares me to death to eat or try.
