I have gotten a referral to a gastroenterologist in my plan, and I have been told that he deals with IBS-C, which I have. How do I know that he truly knows what he is doing? I hear so much on this site how much trouble people have with their GIs. Is there anything specific that I need to tell him or ask him or make sure he knows?? I had such severe C this last week that Saturday night I almost had to go to the ER. Thankfully the Fleet enema worked, although it was very unpleasant. Any help you can give me is welcomed. I'm still in pain today, even....things are very sluggish in there.

Jen and others, Isn't there a section in Heather's first year book that addresses this? If so, it may be on this website somewhere. Anyone know where exactly??

Check here Irritable Bowel Syndrome Glossary under the entry for "IBS" and you'll get tons of info on what you need to have your doctor do, questions to ask, what to expect, etc. That's the info you're looking for!
