Just Got my Acacia! Heather - A Question

Hello,
I just got my Acacia and IBS book in the mail (may I just say what superfast shipping!) and I just had a quick question. I believe I read that unlike Metamucil and other similar products there's no choking or inhalation hazard with the acacia, and i just wanted to make sure that was correct. So, if I want to take it out of the bag that it came in and put it in some sort of storage container, I don't have to worry about breathing it in and choking.
Also, will it interfere with any other medications? Because I know that the Metamucil you weren't supposed to take within two hours of other medicines because of absorption issues...just wondering if this is the same.
Thanks again! I'm excited to try this

I'm not Heather, but I do have some answers for you.

No problem at all with the acacia. I put mine in a glass canister with a rubber gasket and a wire clamp on top. You don't breath it in at all. It's kind of like sugar -- you won't choke on it. I believe Heather keeps hers in a Zip-Loc bag.

No, it doesn't interfere with other medications. I take meds too; not to fear at all.

You'll like the acacia; it's great stuff.

Hi - there's no choking hazard because Acacia doesn't thicken in the glass like Metamucil does. I've honestly never heard of the breathing hazard for any soluble fiber supplements. I'm sure if you were working in a factory processing tons of the stuff and there was dust in the air this could be a factor, but other than that no worries. You can easily transfer the Acacia to another container, just like you could flour.

For the meds, if you can take them with food you can take them with a soluble fiber supplement. If you have to take the meds on an empty stomach then treat the supplement like food.

Hi Heather (and everyone!)
I am new to the boards. I have spent the last several weeks reading through the website and I have just recently made a few posts by answering some questions. To give you a brief background...I am 26..a celiac and an IBS sufferer. I had my gallbladder removed last year and I have had to intestinal parasites exactly one year apart (made me terribly ill...lost tons of weight..etc)
Anyway I am just now starting to get things figured out and back on track esp since I discovered I am a celiac! Anyway, I have just received the acacia fiber and tried it the last few days and ended up with constipation! I have been using benebiber in equal amounts with no problem, I don't understand what went wrong...any suggetions. I take it first thing in the morning in a glass of plain water.
Thank you for your help and this wonderful informational superhighway you have created!

Hi - I'd increase your Acacia dose a little, and make sure you're drinking tons of water. Make sure you're taking 2-3 doses per day instead of just one. You want your gut filled with soluble fiber all day long.

Also, make sure you switched doses from the Benefiber to an equivalent of the Acacia in terms of grams, not in terms of volume. I'm not sure if the grams per dose of both fibers are the same, and that's what you want to watch for.

Thank you for your response Heather! I will try increasing the dose. I did match the gram dose between the benefiber and Acacia at least I thought I did, but I am going to increase the dose anyway and see what happens!
Thanks,
amy
