I was just recently diagnosed with IBS. I have begun to read Heather's books but am a little confused as to how wheat products fit in. Are they ever considered soluble fiber? Is brown rice considered soluble? Also what additional snack foods that are soluble fiber? Thanks for any input!

Welcome to the boards. You should find all you need here.
I just actually "polled" people about snacks recently! If you do a search on "snack" you should find lots, easily. And check the recipe index.
I don't mess too much with brown rice, but that's just me. I'm extra careful 'cause I'm so sensitive. I'm sure others can answer that more in depth...

Welcome to the boards! Yep, wheat products are soluble fiber. Check out Heather's helpful list of soluble fiber foods here. I relied on this soo much when I was first starting the diet! As you can see, pastas and breads containing wheat are right there on the list. The thing you have to watch out for is the distinction between "wheat" and "whole wheat" products. Whole wheat still contains the outer part of the wheat, which has a lot of insoluble fiber and can be a possible trigger. You'll probably want to stick with white breads and pastas until you see what your body can tolerate, although most of us can tolerate whole wheats in small amounts. Brown rice is also a whole grain, but it's often better tolerated than whole wheat, so that's something you might want to try as a way of getting insoluble fiber into your diet. I hope I didn't confuse the heck out of you, I know it's overwhelming at first. Just take it slow and feel free to ask us any questions that come up!
