I have a question ...
My doctor started me on Metamucel recently. I have "alternating" IBS, but mostly "D", so I totally don't know why she's putting me on a laxative ... but she's the doc, not me. Anyway, I am having a really hard time choking the stuff down. In addition to IBS, I also have Acid Reflux Disease, and the texture of the Metamucil doesn't help matters ... not to mention that the taste isn't the best. I was wondering if anyone has Metamucil ... 'Recipies,' I guess, or some way to make it more bearable. I've tried drinking it straight, mixing it with Kool-Aid and with Cran-Apple juice, but I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has better suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi - Metamucil is NOT a laxative, it's a soluble fiber supplement, and soluble fiber regulates bowel function. But, Metamucil would be my last choice among the supplements, especially since you have reflux and the citric acid in Metamucil can make this much worse.

Check here for tons of info about soluble fiber supplement options and how exactly they help IBS web page

You have lots of choices that won't thicken, or taste like anything, that you can just drink plain in water or sprinkle on foods where they'll disappear. That would probably suit you better than the Metamucil.

Best,
Heather
