Also, if you had NO symptoms before gallbladder removal, and your primary symptom has been just chronic diarrhea ever since, you may well have a problem with bile malabsorption and not IBS at all. If this sounds like you, ask your GI doc about Questran, a prescription med which absorbs the bile acids that are being dumped directly into your small intestines (instead of stored in your missing gallbladder) and prevents the bile from causing irritation and thus diarrhea.
So here's the poll...

See my reply under They need Experts on the AllExperts network.
There is in fact a liver specialist calling himself Swissdoc who could answer your question.

Re my note to you on another subject line.
I did see doctor today and he states that since liver continually produces bile it at times produces more than what you body needs at that particular time even though it should be adjusting.
He would not recommend the medication suggested by Heather in my case because of other medication I take.
He is not against the use of probiotics but states not to take too much as that can increase problem.

Heather, Thank you for everything that you have done for all of us. Now I really don't feel like alone with this and that there is hope that I can get this under control. The doctor(s) still are calling this IBS but I have to question it sometimes because of what I have read and listening to other people. My IBS is not mainly D or C, but alot of pain with anything I put in my mouth. My main question is the pain is mostly in my upper right quad and sometimes goes a cross into the left side. I have learned to deal with the pain most of the time but sometimes its so bad that I have to go to the hospital for meds. Other times I'm so sick to my stomach that I can't keep ANYTHING down and end up in the hospital for I.V. Next week the pain mangement doctor is going to try a nerve block to see if that will help with the pain. So we will see what happens.
Thanks again, kathyjo
