I have read that you should take metamucil 2 hours before or after taking prescribtion medication. I only take it at night, because I take medications in the morning, but would like to take in the am too. I was wondering if anyone knows which kinds of medication it may interfere with and do you wait 2 hours before taking it, after medications?
Thanks, Karen(KJ)

Is this just one of those cases where Metamucil has to follow the same dosage guidelines of laxatives? Or does the soluble fibre somehow interfere with absorbtion of the medication? (So, does this hold for non-prescription meds too?) Any thoughts anyone?

I have a vague idea that the latter may be the case. Perhaps it's just a precautionary measure.

The best bet here is to call your pharmacist and ask. If a medication has to be taken on an empty stomach, then you'll need to time it around the soluble fiber. If you can take the med with food, you might well be able to have it with the soluble fiber.

there is nothing on the bottle about metamucil interfering with medications. When I bought my metamucil the pharmacist didn't say anything about timing either.
