I havent been able to get Heathers book yet but I am gonna real soon. I need to know why its so important to chew up our food really well. The reason why I am asking it because I have noticed that my BM's are small and I have a lot of C ones. This is so GROSS I am sorry but it looks like food not chewed up because I swollow so fast and I am not chewing up my food. I was wondering if thats why my colon is making a lot of small bm's. Call me crazy...I know maybe I am way out there but I was just wondering.

Hi - chewing is actually the first step in the digestive process. Food starts to be broken down in your mouth by saliva and by the chewing itself. Chewing also manually breaks down insoluble fiber, minimizing the impact it can have on IBS.

This is a good reason to eat leisurely and chew thoroughly!
