Are all fiber supplements (tablets) created equal (m)

I have been using fibercon but they don't have that many mg of fiber. I tend to be gassy so I want to stay away from Metamucil. I do take Heather's fiber mix in the am and pm but need tablets I can carry around with me. When I read laxatives on the labels I get nervous. There were a few on sale today at the store but I didn't recognize the names. Are they pretty much the same?

Also I had a slice of pizza (a normal trigger) the night before and no diarreah! Hooray! Maybe it's the supplements, maybe it's the fact I'm normally watching what I eat. I don't know!

Hi - the only tablet soluble fiber supplements I know of are Equalactin (my favorite), Fibercon, and Citrucel caplets (my least favorite - they just don't seem to work for me). There are generic versions of some of these - look for WalMart or KMart tablets made from calcium polycarbophil or methylcellulose. There are psyllium caplets available too (Metamucil) and inulin tablets (FiberChoice) but I'd avoid those as they're by far the most likely to cause big-time bloating and gas.

Benefiber comes in little individual pouches of single servings. Those might be good for travel.

I'm glad you brought this up, Sandy. Ever since I got Heather's acacia, I've wondered how I'm gonna handle this "on the road." I threw a few Fibercon in my emergency medical kit in my purse, but I'm not satisifed. Hopefully soon Heather will be able to get her acacia in capsule form, but in the meantime, I think I'm gonna keep a 1-2 serving portion in a small plastic bottle in my purse emergency kit, which I can discretely stir in my tea at the table.

You had "regular" pizza? With REAL cheese? And no attack? CONGRATULATIONS! That's incredible. I wouldn't have the nerve to even try it.

I also carry my Acacia in a ziploc bag and keep it with me to mix with whatever I can when I'm at work or just out.

frozen kind and not much cheese on it. (real cheese) My stomach had been pretty good...so I tried it. I didn't chance a 2nd piece though. I made the chocolate cake in the IBS recipie book tonight and I thought it was yum. My kids weren't too impressed I don't think b/c it's not as sweet as some other desserts but my hubby liked it. I'm going to try the health food pizza you've talked about though. I'm not always going to chance the real pizza!
