I have had IBS D for almost 20 years. Since last summer, it has been just awful. I stumbled across Heather's Tummy fiber last winter and it started to make a difference. Yet I quickly learned that I really needed to take quite a bit for the diarrhea to slow down. After many months, I worked my way up to 1/2 T. twice a day. I started noticing results. Then all of a sudden, I started to get constipated so I slowly started adding more and worked my way up to 2 T. (1 T. 2x a day). I settled at this place for a month or two and now I am once again constipated. I have worked my way up to 1.5 T 2x a day, but still have constipation. This is just so odd for me as D was always my issue. Is it possible I am not taking enough or am I taking too much? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Annliz - the Tummy Fiber is just pure soluble fiber, so it can't turn diarrhea to constipation or vice versa. It just regulates bowel contractions and water content in the bowel.
As a very rough average, diarrhea takes 1-3 tablespoons per day (total, but ideally divided into 2 separate doses), while constipation takes 3-5 tablespoons per day.
As long as your increases are gradual, and it sounds like they are, you are doing this right.
It may be other factors are influencing this - diet, stress, weather, etc.
If you're up 1.5 T twice a day, that is ok, and still in the middle range. You can continue to gradually increase and hopefully that will resolve any constipation.
Please keep me posted.

Thank you so much for the help. My diet has stayed consistent with the only change, giving up coffee completely 2 months ago. I also am working through the IBS 100 hypnosis program. I will continue to gradually increase the fiber. I so appreciate the help.
