I think Pacific brand makes them, and Rice Dream as well. They have no added oils, and are virtually fat free. There's also oat milk, which should be low fat as well.

OOOps.....what I meant to say was that the rice/soy CHEESES had to much fat for me. (This head cold/cough I've had for going on 2 weeks now has caused brain fog so I'm not always thinking straight.)

I use all of the rice/oat/almond beverages, reg. and fat free with no problem. They are ok, not as good as the soy ones (which I CAN'T have) or low fat milk, but ok for things like cereal and cooking.

Sorry for the accidental exclusion of the word cheese........My mistake.

Kandee less than 20% American women consume too little calcium? Did I read it right?

That is scary and what these girls don't know is dark soda depletes their calcium intake. Hopefully the schools are teaching this, but kids always feel nothing bad will happen to me, so to teach them how bad soda is will be a helpless cause.

I take two calcium pills a day along with drinking enriched soy milk. I know I'm getting enough calcium in a day. If not let me know Kandee.

Sorry to report Barbara, but you're right. In my group of friends, only my friend Rachel and I drink water. All of my other friends drink pop, and so does practically everyone else at my school. Sometimes I want just ONE root beer. Just to remember the taste. That was my favorite pop before diagnosed. Maybe I'll just drink half of one on a day when I'm home. Maybe half won't hurt since it's caffeine free, ya know? Ok, maybe just 1/4 lol. We'lll see when I get there....

Every once in awhile I crave soda and regret it every time. I love a large glass of with water with a slice of lemon. As a grown up my friends still order soda when going out. My sister-n-law is the worse - she will drink at least 3 glasses of diet pepsi with her meal.

I agree - milk is for baby cows -- which have 4 stomachs to help them digest it -- we have only one (and for us IBS folks -- one highly sensitives digestive tract at that!). There are so many other options that are easier on our tummies.

Calcium and Menopause new

Barbara, are you menopausal? Close to menopause? I'm not being nosy, just concerned. It's really important to get enough calcium as we age. You say you take 2 calcium pills a day -- how much calcium is in each? My doctor really drummed this into me -- BIG time -- when I started menopause, writing it on a slip of paper for me, which I've kept all these years: 1,200mg. calcium per day plus "D". Every time I visit the doctor, after the nurse takes my blood pressure, that's the first question she asks me: "Are you taking in 1,200mg. calcium a day, DAH-LING?"

I take Calcium plus D - two tablets which equal 635mg. I drink Enriched soy milk and that an 8 oz glass provides 30% calcium needs for the day. Is that enough?

I also lift free weights three times a week, which is suppose to help with bone strength.

I'm 36 and I think I may be going into perimenopause already. I do see my Gyn. on the 20th for the awful yearly exam and I plan to talk to her about my symtoms.

Your gyn can answer your questions MUCH better than I. I was 38 when I had my surgery which forced me into an early menopause, requiring a strict daily calcium supplement, so my situation is different from yours.

As I got older, I found that I had to eat less, such that, by now, it's impossible for me to consume enough calcium from my food; supplements are the only answer for me. That may happen to you as you get older, maybe not.

Do each of your calcium pills contain 635mg. or is that the total for BOTH? If it's the total for both, you can do better. Check the labels -- I got a huge supply at Safeway on one of their specials, and I made sure that EACH capsule contained 600mg. A lot of times I don't have any soy milk products, so I have to depend on the supplements. That doesn't appear to be your case, however.

It's good that you are on top of all this, Barbara. By the time you're 50 or 60 you'll be glad you began taking action at 36.

Which rice dream is fat free? All that I have come across have fat in them. I like the PAcific, but our grocery store said they are discontinuing it.
