Unsweetened Almond Milk - For Heather

Heather,
You state in your books (and on-line) to drink fat-free soy, rice or almond milks. I drink the Almond Breeze Soy-Free Unsweetened Vanilla almond milk - it has 40 calories and 3.5 grams of fat (30 calories from fat). Is this too high in fat? Would it be ok to use in recipes or drink alone? The only fat-free milk that I have seen here is soy milk and soy really bothers me.

Hi - it doesn't have to be fat free, it just needs to be a variety where they're not adding extra oil. I don't see that too much anymore, but it used to be really common for soy and rice milks to have corn or other oils added to them.

Heather...isn't that product ILLEGAL since it has more than 25% of calories from fat? It was my understanding that any food, if it has more than 25% of calories from fat (unless it is a small serving, very small, of nuts) is not allowed and likely to cause issues?

The general idea is to keep the total daily intake of fat to less than about 25% of the total daily calories consumed.
It is possible that an individual food item may have more than 25% calories from fat yet the total daily intake of fat from calories from all foods eaten during the day or in a meal is less than 25%.
