In regards to consuming soluble fiber first with meals...does that mainly apply prior to eating an insoluble fiber or does that apply to eating protein such as chicken as well? For example, would it be more beneficial to eat rice first then the chicken or mix them together and eat at the same time?

You can mix your meat and SF together. When it comes to SF/IF, it depends on your tolerance for IF. Many people can combine a meal of SF and IF and not eat one after the other- think pasta with some veggies in it. However, if you want to eat a salad or something IF like that you probably need to eat a good bit of SF first. If I go out to eat and want salad or something IF, I literally eat a piece or two of bread first before a bite of salad. At home if I have rice and veggie, I might take a couple bites of rice first and then start having some veggie.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Thats a good point. Alot of times I will eat ground turkey just plain. Im sure eating it with soluble fiber is better but is it necessary?
