New here...a few questions.

Hi,

I've had a nervous stomach all my life but since the summer time, it's been much more than that. My mom was very sick over the summer and then died in November. The stress of all of that really caused my stomach to flair up. ( mostly in the form of diarreah)

I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow so my doctor can rule out other stuff. I discovered this web site and started watching what I eat and taking soluble fiber and that has helped a lot. Yesterday and today though I have had bouts again with the diarreah. I'm not sure if it's because of the stress of having this procedure done tomorrow or changing my soluble fiber from fibercon to the Acacia. Has anyone had problems when switching brands of fiber? Does it take a little while for your body to adjust?

Also I'm thin, lose weight easily ( 5, 7 1/2 and weigh 112). I don't want to lose more and eating like this I know I will w/o the extra fatty stuff and sweets I was accustomed to. Any suggestions?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Sandy

Hello and Welcome!

So sorry to hear about your mom The added stress will make tummy problems worse!

I also recently switched from fibercon to acacia. Keep in mind the fibercon has very little fiber compared to the acacia. When I first switched my tummy went a little crazy for about 2 weeks. Try reducing your dose for a little while than gradually increase as you stabile, that helped me. I really find the acacia to be very helpful, I've been on it almost a month now. Stick with it!

Not everyone has a problem with sweets. Most of us don't need the empty calories so we stay away from them, be careful of high fat that is usually what caused problems. I know others have had problems with low weight, do a search on the subject. I personally am trying to lose weight so can't help much there!

Hi Sandy,

I just answered your other post with the same questions in this board, so I won't repeat them here. However, with regard to your concerns over weight loss, I can assure you that has most definitely NOT been my problem (I wish it had been)! We still eat goodies and fun stuff -- check out our "Antidepressant Brownies" for instance -- oooh BABY! -- so you'll still get fat in your diet, maybe not what you were used to, but perhaps that's a good thing, eh?

Welcome to the boards!

Bev

P.S.: Sorry about your mom. No wonder you're experiencing a lot of stress!

Hi, I can relate to your concerns about weight loss. I am 5'6 1/2" and weigh 118. I have weighed this my whole life even after gaining 35 lbs a piece with my two kids 15 years ago. I eat according to Healther's diet for the most part and have not lost any weight. Even when times are good and I can eat more liberally, I still do not gain weight though. So I think the diet will at least keep you where your body wants it's weight to be!

Hi Sandy! I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. You've obviously been through a lot lately, and I'm not surprised it has bothered your tummy. I certainly understand about your nervous stomach. Stress has bothered my digestion for as long as I can remember, so I know how powerful it can be. When I'm stressed out, I try to take as much "me" time as possible to just relax and meditate, read a good book, or watch a favorite movie that can take my mind off things.

I'm also a very skinny person by nature. Since being diagnosed with IBS I lost some weight and right now I'm 5'9 and barely over 120 lbs. But the good news is that I've stopped losing, and am slowly gaining weight back since starting to follow Heather's diet. It can be done! I just fill up on white breads, safe quick breads and muffins, boneless skinless chicken, and soluble fiber veggies like potatoes, squash, and carrots. Granted, they are low fat, but they still have calories, and if you eat enough it is certainly possible to get enough fat to gain some weight. Best of luck to you, and I look forward to seeing you around the boards. Feel free to ask any questions you might have!
