I have been doing some internet research, and it appears there are more and more studies coming out linking ibs-d symptoms to allergies and production of histamines.

I've found that my IBS-D symptoms flare up tremendously during the springtime, when pollen is at it's highest. I recently started taking Zyrtec 24hrs over the counter, starting with last thursday. It's too soon to tell if the pills actually helped, but I did have a 4 day period of no problems. B. However yesterday pollen counts were at their highest so far, and this morning I awoke to an upset stomach.

I'm wondering if anybody else has linked seasonal allergies to their IBS symptoms, and if so, what works for you? I'm wondering if I should keep taking the zyrtec, try something stronger, or what.

Funny thing, I went to a web site today that gives a view of the pollen counts over the last 30 days. I was stable all winter, and the day I had a bad upset, was the day we had a sudden spike in pollen. And subsequent upsets since then were right after days with high counts when I was outside. This was happening before I even started checking the pollen forecast. I'm almost certain my seasonal allergies and IBS-d symptoms are linked. The question now is how to treat it

I know I have noticed an increase in stomach upset during allergy season also.
I think it has to do with all the..ahem..snot you keep sucking back in or at the least post nasal drip. When you sleep I know it just goes down the back of your throat and maybe this irritates your stomach.
Also all the sneezing can tense your stomach muscles causing pain.

I do find always having something in my stomach helps and taking Benadryl...but that makes me sleepy.
