This is my first post and I have lots of questions and have been using the search tool to find answers, so many of your posts have already proven helpful – Thanks! I'm sure I'll be posting questions in the future, but for now I just wanted to introduce myself.
My story in brief…
I am 40yrs old and have had IBS-C since my teens (alternating to D around my cycle) but was not diagnosed until my mid-twenties. Like many, all I was told was "eat more fiber" (Metamucil has been my "friend" ever since). Overtime, I discovered on my own that I had to quit pop, be careful with fried foods and that I felt awful if I overate. I also found that walking helped keep things moving. =)
Compared to many of the stories I've read hear I'd say I have a pretty mild case, even so, the diet changes I am making based on the info I've found here are already making a HUGE difference!
Memorial Day weekend I indulged for the last time and was completely miserable. I came home and searched the internet for IBS diet… and you can guess what I found! =) Within two days I decided to give up dairy and red meat and the changes in just a week and a half are amazing. I ordered the Tummy Fiber and Peppermint Caps and just got them yesterday, so I can't wait to see how those help. And since I'm not very creative in the kitchen I ordered Eating for IBS, it's a bit intimidating, yet exciting too. I've always said if you can read, you can cook… now I get to put that theory into practice. =)
One last thought… I've decided that IBS is not who I am, but rather just something I have, and I aim to keep it that way!
Blessings, Cathrine

Hope you are feeling better very soon - and I love your attitude. IBS shouldn't define someone - it's not who they are, it is just something (ideally something increasingly minor) they have in their lives.

Welcome Cathrine. You will find lots of information and great support here.
It sounds like you have a wonderful attitude which is a good start in dealing with IBS. There are some great recipes in the Eating for IBS book and there are tons more on the recipe boards.
