Hello everyone! My name is Gil and I am new to the boards. My tummy problems really started while I was in college and shortly after, I was dignosed with GERD. It wasn't until about a year ago that I started having issues with the other end! I had a colonoscopy in September that revealed diverticulosis but mostly ruled the other "diagnosable" diseases. After the first scope, I was sent to a specialist who ran some other tests and wants to do a repeat colonoscopy after seeing my results from the first. I really wasn't mentally/physically prepared to go through that again so I have neglected to go back. My tummy, however is telling me different! My symptoms have changed and have somewhat worsened. The cramping is almost unbearable! After an episode last night, my husband is begging me to go back to the doc and to find out what's going on! I know that's exactly what I need to do and I feel pretty confident that IBS is exactly what I have. I found these boards while searching for IBS info. I hope you guys don't mind if I join ya...I figure the more support the better!

WELCOME Gil! I had my colonoscopy last Thurday-so I can understand why you wouldn't want to go through with it again--but I'm a firm believer in "you can't find a solution without knowing the problem".
It's great to have you on board--we'll help and support ya in any way we can! Good luck and keep us posted!

Welcome to the board! I'm glad you're working on getting a solid diagnosis - that's half the battle sometimes.

There's one previous thread on diverticulosis at web page

You can also look over the dietary guidelines, which are applicable to both IBS and diverticulosis, at web page

Hopefully that will info will get feeling better pretty quickly. For the cramping, try strong hot peppermint tea - it's a great muscle relaxant and painkiller. And start adding a soluble fiber supplement into your diet - there's info at web page

Let us know how things go!

Best,
Heather

Gil - nice to have you included on the boards. We try to be helpful, compassionate and we listen. If you have any questions, no matter what, don't hesitate to post them. It might be helpful for you to do some "searches" with your questions first before posting because a lot of your questions can probably be answered from previous posts.

If you don't know how to search, just go to the top of this page to the word "search" and click. When the next screen pops up, read each little box and be sure to pick the correct option(s). If you need any help, just post it and we'll try.

Be sure to look at the other forums on this board.

Again, welcome.

Thanks so much!! I've already learned so much just from reading through old postings. My doctor's appt. is scheduled for March 31st! I would like to get your books. Can I find them in a bookstore or do I need to order them online?

Thanks again!

Hi - Glad you feel at home here!

You can get the books at Barnes and Noble, Borders, Whole Foods, and other stores in the US. In Canada Chapters and some health food stores carry them. Or you can order on-line at web page
