Hi:
My GI officially diagnosed IBS after ALL the workups. I'm trying to do the diet and supplement changes but have been slow to add the fiber. My biggest problem right now is chronic nausea that's felt more when the bowels seem active. Also some mild cramping but, stools have been good! Wondering if others have experienced this and saw their nausea or queasiness either reduced or eliminated when they got their fiber intake up to the right levels. Thx for the advise.

I have always had a lot of nausea with my IBS. I can never tell if I have the stomach flu or IBS. The only thing I have found to help are the anti nausea meds your Dr can prescribe. They take a little while to work, but help me. Joan

Hi Samuel, Welcome! I occasionally have nausea for seemingly no reason. I have IBS-D, so my bowels are ALWAYS active! The nausea, which is not common, thankfully, usually goes away with peppermint tea. Do a "search" here for info about fiber; it's really important -- I should know 'cause for 2 years I wasn't getting NEARLY enough! Bev.

Hi JoanMarie:
Yeah, My Dr. gave me Phenergran. I've used it a few times with a little success. Ginger also has helped a little. Also, Klonopin, which I have in case of a panic attack, which I suffer from occassionaly, has calmed it down. Just wish I knew why I was getting it!!!!

I have severe nausea with my IBS. I feel queasy 90% of the time. One thing that helped me was when my doctor put me on low doses (I was taking 50 mg) of amitryptaline (sp?), a generic anti-depressant. I guess it tells my body to stop freaking out over nothing. I still had all of the other fun IBS stuff, but once the nausea is gone, I'll take the bloating etc. Also, eating a lot of small meals seems to help as well. Good luck!

Hi Samuel,
When first positively diagnosed, my alt. medicine M.D. put me on 3,000mg. of ginger root daily, in divided doses, of course. When I forget to take it I notice unexplained bouts of nausea, but when I'm good I haven't even a twinge of it. I tried a tiny amount of an antidepressant, Elavil, and it did nothing so I stopped it after 3 months. Keep trying different things or different forms of a med and you'll hit the right combo for you...
I'm not absolutely sure but don't think the soluble fiber intake will affect the nausea one way or another unless one of the fillers in a brand goes against your tummy.
Good luck to you........Kandee

Maybe you should try Compezine as it could be Phenergen may not be effective for you. For the panic attacks have you tried relaxation techniques? For other people I know who suffer from panic attacks, taking a long shower and listening to the water fall helps, listening to relaxation tapes or Michael Mahoney's hypnotherapy for anxiety could also be helpful. Deep breathing, and muscle relaxation can also help. Good luck. Joan

I don't have a huge problem with nausea except with I overeat. Then I will eat a few Altoids and the peppermint really seems to help.

so is keeping your stomach full with frequent snacks/small meals throughout the day. The emptier it gets, the more likely the nausea will hit. Drinking ginger tea or chewing crystallized ginger throughout the day can help prevent the nausea.
