First couple of days on IBS diet - not taking any soluble fibre supplements yet but I'm basing my diet on soluble fibre foods - feeling very windy (although it's passing through without any problem!); is this to be expected and is it likely to settle down any time soon??? Should i keep going and ride through the hurricane? Thanks Shells

LOL - I've never heard of this, but I like your description!
Well, the only thing I can think of is are you using any soy products? If you're not used to them, you want to start out slow until you adjust to it, because it can cause gas.

When I started taking soluble fiber supplements I initially got cramps and gas, as my doctor told me. But after a couple of days my body started to adjust and I got better. Stay the course. I say give it a week or two. What do you have to lose.

Good advice from the other posts - I'd add that you can drink fennel tea to help prevent the gas as your body adjusts to the fiber increase.

Thanks for the advice everyone - i'll keep going.
For those of you confused by my terminology, 'pops' is a kiddy term often used in the UK! I suppose it means that gas just 'popped' out!!
Other popular UK terms meaning I popped are... trumped (don't even ask!) farted and more polite - broke wind

Michael -- on his CD -- calls it wind. At first, I didn't know what he was talking about. But then, I was a teenager before I had ever heard the term "fart." I thought, growing up, it was "cut one" ! You know, "okay, which one of you kids cut one?!" Bev

hI; when I first started eating fibre foods I had WHOLE LOT of gas too. Imean every time I had some bread or comething it would come out. BUT, after a few weeks it did settle down, it does just take time. I kniw how embarrassing it can be.
