I was hoping that someone could tell me more about the link with IBS and MSG. I always have tried to avoid MSG since it has made me violently ill. But after reading more about it, I am beginning to feel many or most of my symptoms may be MSG related. But the more I read about it, the more it seems extremely difficult to impossible to avoid. It is in a lot of soy products, which I have begun to love. Does anyone have any info?

A lot folks with IBS feel that MSG is a trigger for them. It is difficult to avoid in many processed foods, but if you suspect it may be your only problem it might be worth it to make a really big effort to eliminate it completely from your diet for a week or two. If you avoid commercially prepared foods and just do home cooking, this is certainly possible. You'd have to read a lot of labels and cook from scratch for everything, but this would let you know if MSG is the only thing causing problems for you.

Best,
Heather
