I've had a cold for the past couple of days...cough, sore throat, runny nose, the whole package...and was wondering if NeoCitran would be alright to drink?

It's a hot liquid medicine that you drink a cup of and its supposed to help with the symptoms.

I've never heard of it either. It must be just in Canada.
Which one are you taking - I saw they have a few different kinds listed on their website. www.neocitran.ca
If you let us know, maybe we can check the ingredients for you.
Hope you get to feeling better soon!

It's the DM cough & colds (natural lemon flavour).
The ingredients are: pheniramine maleate 20 mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 mg, dextromethorphan hydrobromide 30 mg, Acesulfame K, calcium phosphate, citric acid, FD & C yellow No. 10, FD & C yellow No. 6, flavours, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, sodium citrate, sucrose.

Holy cow! I don't even know what most of that is! LOL
I think you should be fine though, if you have it after a meal - not on an empty stomach. The only thing I see that stands out is the citric acid. If you don't have acid reflux, I think you should be okay.
Let us know how you make out.

Jules: It should be ok as long as you don't have high blood pressure-over the counter cold medicine is bad for hypertensives. But if it's like the kind we have in the states-should work well! Maryh

I think i'll try it tomorrow night after dinner if my cold is still really bothering me. I don't have to worry about those other conditions so i'm hoping that i'll be fine. Thanks for the help and i'll let you know how it goes!

I am really surprised none of you Americans have heard of NEO cITRAN. iT is a really good tasting lemony drink ttake when you have a cold. There is an ingredient in it that makes you sleepy so you can rest while you get better. It is also good for sore throats as well. Maybe there is an American eqivalent to Neo citran.

We do have TheraFlu which sounds just like it. I'm not sure if you have that in Canada though.

I wouldn't take Neo Citran. It helped with cold for sure..but then I dealt with "D" for the next two days. It was awful. I wouldn't drink it if you don't have to.
I would just drink some tea with honey in it. That will help you as well.
Hope you feel better soon!

You might already know this but keep your fluid intake up, escpecially with a cold, it thins the mucus out escpecially for the digestive tract and can help prevent pnemonia. How about Echinicea? The standardized kind, it's only beneficial when you take it when the onset of the cold appears. never take it on a empty tummy always with food. Glad to hear your feeling a little better. Also for natural sore throat remedy good old fashion salt water garggle. Lana Marie has a good one if you can tolerate a little lemon and honey in your tea, this will also help a sore throat and calm a cough. Good luck and fast recovery.
