Has anyone tried Zelnorm? I've been on it for about 3 weeks, but I am not getting any relief. It just stopped working! I quit today because I don't like the side effects as well.

Hi - I haven't heard good things about Zelnorm. A few people seem to have had results, but many more either didn't have relief or had bad side effects. I'm pretty disappointed that something Novartis has hyped so with so much publicity has turned out be a dud as far as I can tell. There's Zelnorm info here web page

Thanks Heather. I'll read it shortly. I tried the Zelnorm for almost three weeks, but it stopped working on the last week. Still had the bloating, pains, constipation etc. So I didn't see the point of continuing. Plus the headaches and mood swings made me feel as though I was going through some severe PMS when I ALREADY had my period! I am trying magnesium 250 mg. and also some enzyme capsules that the nutritionist at the health food store recommended. I am also trying some of the things you recommended on the diet, plus I'm taking citrucel 3 times/day to see if that would help.

Hi, I'm new to the message board. I felt compelled to sign on because I have had amazing success with Zelnorm. It has really changed my life. Of course, I still have the effects of IBS-C when I eat the wrong foods or too much in one sitting, but otherwise, I feel so much better. One thing I have noticed (for anyone who is using it, or might) is that it works better for me if I take the two doses before lunch & dinner.
I hope this helps in some way.

I have been on Zelnorm for about a month and I wouldn't want to go back to living without it. My pain is almost completely gone as long as I don't test my limits too much(I can sleep at night). I'm not bloated quite as much, I don't have as much gas, and I am starting to experiment with foods a bit more. With the help of some Citrucel I have a bowel movement just about everyday (before I was lucky to have 2 a week). It hasn't by anymeans been a miracle cure, I still have IBS, but for me it is a whole lot easier to deal with. I know that it says it doesn't work for everyone, infact if you look at the information, most people don't see a big increase. I guess you just have to weigh your options and pray that sometime soon there will be a new drug released for IBS-C.
I'm sorry it's not working for you. I truly know what it's like to suffer! But I want to encourage fellow sufferers to maybe give it a shot. It might work.

I've been on Zelnorm for a week. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. My question to those who are on it and have experienced relief--how long does it take? Will my side effects go away? So far I just get bad headaches and occassional diarrhea from the pill.

The results are kind of similar to taking a super heavy laxative for me right now, and I'm not a fan of that feeling. I think I'll give it another week, but if it doesn't feel better, I'll stop. It's so expensive, too!

My P.A. said that it didn't work for most of their patients, and she didn't understand why the doctor kept prescribing it!

I started taking Zelnorm, and I've been on it for about 1 1/2 weeks... at first I "thought" it helped, but I also changed my diet quite a bit, so I am not sure whether the success should be attributed to the drug or me? I still get bloated and feel pain in my stomach, but it seems to not be AS bad or go away quicker... my GI gave me trial pills to cover the first month and also a certificate from the makers of Zelnorm to give me my "first month free" (so I get two months w/out paying for the pills). I figure I'll try them for that long, if I feel it's not working, I'll probably just increase my "want/need" for natural alternatives (tea, mg... etc.) and make stable changes to my diet. Although I have altered my diet quite a bit, I have not totally changed all the bad habits in my diet (you'd cringe if you knew what I still ate... mini m-n-m's on occasion I'm just being dumb and I'm too stubborn... but paying for my stubbornness), so possibly Zelnorm is doing *extra* work in that area?? My symptoms are mainly headaches, I only had "D" for the first day... but the symptoms have seemed to go away, although I get quite irritable at times. **Ask your GI about a promotional offer from Zelnorm that gives you your first month free?** It gets expensive trying all these different methods... Personally, I don't like taking med's... the natural way makes me feel more comfortable. If I think of anything else dealing with Zelnorm and how it's working, I'll letcha' know. Good luck

I didn't work for me either. headaches seem to be a common complaint, although I did not experience them. I stopped after about 6 weeks when I got so constipated I couldn't stand it anymore and went back to the miralax. I was so hopeful when I first heard about Zelnorm, hopefully they will come out with something better.
