Stomach Pain Upper GI

Well, my search continues, and I appear to be getting closer to the IBS diagnosis. My colonoscopy results just came back and the small and large intestine seem fine. My doctor is now wondering about Endrometriosis (spelling?) So I am looking forward to more tests. When I asked about IBS, he said, "That is a non-diagnosis. We need to rule out other things first." My problem is that my symptoms do seem to be, not changing exactly, but growing. This started out as an isolated pain in my lower right side. Now I have not only general lower abdominal pain which comes and goes, but also a line of pain above the belly button, and the latest is a crampy feeling in my stomach (upper GI) which has been getting stronger and more frequent for the last couple of weeks. This is worse after eating. I am almost afraid to see my doctor about this. He must be beginning to wonder about my sanity, and so am I. I haven't had an upper GI done yet, but maybe I need one. Any advice? Similar symptoms? I am just feeling so tired of all this lately, and I'm still worried that there might be something serious wrong.

Hi - your doc sounds great. He's right, IBS is a type of "non-diagnosis", in that it can only be diagnosed after test results for everything that can mimic it come back negative. And it's absolutely crucial that he knows your symptoms are changing and expanding, especially into the upper GI area. This could well point to another problem, and he'll know better what to look for the more info you give him. He won't question your sanity, he'll be happy to have the info he needs to figure out what's really going on here.

I know exactly how you feel!! But do not stop until all issues have been explored. I thought everyone would think that I was a complete hypochondriac! But by the time my whole regiment of tests, etc, had been done, I'd tried several meds, then had colonoscopy (found polyps, some precancerous), had upper endoscope (found gastritis), meds for that helped and Heather's diet helped but was STILL in pain so had abdominal CT scan (found GI tract okay, but problems around ovaries/uterus), had exploratory laprocopic surgery and a vaginal hysterectomy!! So YEAH, I felt like an insane hypochondriac by the end of all this, like "one more thing!!!" but the truth is that it ALL had to be looked into and taken care of. Your Dr sounds great and wants to be sure he hasn't missed anything, and that is exactly what you should do. Good luck!!

Hi Michelle, got a question for ya. I had a ct scan done also and they saw free foating fluid in my pelvic area, everthing else was ok.
Went to my regular doc which my Gi suggested and she had a
ultrasound done and said that there was nothing there.
Does this sound familar and should I pursue another opinion.
My mother lost here uterus at 23yrs to precancer and endermet. runs in my family as well as fibro tumers, but Doc see know hurry to check these out?
So it is hard for me to get a referrel. During these test with Gi I had 2months of gut pain no meds and losts of D lost 40 lbs and I'm a big girl.I'm stable now but still have occasional pains and no D but not eating to my full potential.thanks for listening.
Thanks Sherr

What kind of ultrasound? A typical ultrasound (instrument rubbed on the outside of the abdomen) is not a good indicator for ov cancer, which is what you're concerned about with ibs symptoms and fluid in the pelvic area. From what information I gathered, you would need the "inside" kind of ultrasound like I described before, to really check out ov cancer. There is not always a noticeable mass in early stages, and not to scare you, but by the time they do find a noticeable mass it can be far gone. I'd look into this. My Dr said the only way to be COMPLETELY sure there was no sign of ov cancer was to just look at the ovaries, which is not merited in all cases by any means, but my ct scan showed the veins leading to ovaries/uterus to be very dilated, plus I'd been on clomid (fertility drug which SPECULATIVELY can increase chance of ov cancer, though not proven) and also family history, IBS symptoms, fatigue, weight loss - just lots of stuff pointing in that direction. Thank the Lord (literally) there was no sign of cancer in my case and I was able to keep my ovaries, but they took my uterus to relieve me of the pain from the dilated veins, and I'm "done with it" (3 kids is enough for me!) ;.) I feel tons better now, by the way.

Hope I've been of some help here! Get a gyno to give you a full check out for this, and good luck!

Thanks, I did have and inter-ultrasound through the vagina.
The Doc said maybe it was just a freak thing and maybe caught a ovarian cyst erupting? I gonna call a ObGyn and make a appointment it's worth checking out. I'm a mom of three also, 35 years old and definitely not getting younger.
Thanks again, Sherr1
