Hi new to this forum. I was diagnosed with IBS about a year and a half ago. I've had the symtoms longer like lets see now l3 years...but figured I'd just deal with it. A year and a half ago after seeing my doctor and he diagnosing me his comment was eat lots of fibre (metamucil) and organize your life arround the problem of your constant diarrhea. Well I attempted this, and so sad to say it is not working I have been poked and probed and all is well no cancers etc. The specialist confirmed my doctors findings. I indeed have IBS. The symptoms have gotten worse and I had to quit my job yesterday due to constant visits to the washroom. I to say the least am devastated. Have shed so many tears my eye balls and head are aching. I asked the specialist if the removal of my gallbladder had anything to do with this. ( I was diarrhea free before the surgery) he says no. So Im here asking any of you fellow IBS sufferers if any of you have had complications such as my self after the removal of your gallbladder? 13 years of running to the washroom, not longer being able to travel and now not being able to work is very upsetting indeed.

Hi Judyth, I too am new to this forum and just posted abt. my problems today. I TRULY hope I have good news for you.
On WebMD I read abt. a woman who had her gallbladder removed and immediately started suffering from constant D as you do. She started taking Calcium supplements 3 x a day to ward off osteoporois and it CURED her problem completely!!!!! She has been D & symptom free for 5 yrs now.
I tried the exact Calcium she uses and feel that it has really helped me even tho I haven't had that surgery. I only take 1/2 caplet 3/x a day whereas she takes 3 whole ones 3 x da. She emphasizes that you shouldn't miss a dose!!!
My problems seem escalated by a recent colonoscopy.....which I sure hope is temporary!!! It does seem to be getting much better now and I am back on the Calcium. Unfortunately, I had to be off Metamucil for a whole WEEK before the colonoscopy and THAT sure messed me up some after taking it for YEARS AND YEARS..... Also, Heather, whose site this is, mentions in her book "A Patient-Expert Walks You Thru Everything You Need to Learn and Do" for IBS",that Calcium has REALLY helped MANY IBS sufferers. I got the book from the library and found it most helpful & urge you to read it.
Please go to that site immediately: http://boards.webmd.com/message.asp?message_id=4611964 & read all about it. I just checked and all the info is still there. At the end of the info you will see another site where others have had success with Calcium. I haven't looked into that one as yet. I would try the EXACT Calcium supplement she mentions and make sure to take it 3 x a da. as she says.
I would also explore this site more. I just found under supplements that Citrucel is much better than Metamucil for those w/gas and bloating which I have.
I so very truly hope that this helps and actually solves your problem. Please keep your CHIN UP & let me know how you are doing!!!!!
Marnie

the odds are you do NOT have IBS and the Questran will solve your diarrhea. Not a 100% guarantee here, as the abdominal surgery for gallbladder removal could have actually caused the onset of IBS, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is not the case for you.
Best, Heather
