Congratulations! That's great to hear.
Maybe we should ask Heather to come up with stability milestone anniversary pins - 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 5 years. Seriously.

My symptom's are very mild and maybe last for half a day. I haven't been double over in pain for a year and it feels great.
For those who want to give up on the diet - don't. It does get better!!!

I do cheat once in awhile and pay for it with a mild stomachache.
I am strict with the diet and my family pretty much eats what I do, except my boys still like their milk. I have one son like me and and his stomachaches and bowels have gotten better on Heather's diet. My co-workers tease me, because I'm the one who comes in with healthy food. They even like Heather's bakery. It is cool.
I can't wait to see my doctor walking around at the hospital to remind him it has been a year. The only time I was in was from an injury to my stomach muscles.

Congratulations. Can you share your supplement/food routine with us? Do you take a probiotic, magnesium, calcium, SFS, digestive enzyme, peppermint oil.... Which ones and how much?
What foods have kept you helped your pain while not constipating you? What does your diet look like? I suppose you eat SF before IF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know we are all different...but maybe something you say might be something I haven't tried yet!

Okay Augie here we go. Another stressful day at work, but only had to stay over an extra two hours. One of my patients died and the daughter was very upset - to the point someone grabbed a wheelchair, because we knew she was going to collapse. I stayed to comfort her on my own time. I done my good deed for awhile. To top it off I injured my back today - the in-house doctor told me what to do. Hopefully it feels better tomorrow. I am IBS C, which I feel is better to have than D. I'm not afraid to eat IF foods anymore - I do eat fresh salads, but I find it easier to eat at lunch time than supper. I avoid iceberg lettuce, cauliflower (unless cooked) and broccoli on a bad tummy day. I always eat my meal first than eat the salad. Heather does mention in her book to eat salad after your meal. If I didn't eat IF I wouldn't have regular BM's I have no problem with whole wheat as long as I eat with other things. I love turkey sandwiches, with lettuce, mayo and a tomato. Combined I do fine. I would never get up in the morning and eat whole wheat on an empty stomach. I eat oatmeal with dried cranberries or raisins and add brown sugar. Pretzels are my only pleasure chips I eat. Any baked chips should be fine (I just don't care for them). Some people are afraid to eat tomato, but fresh are not acidic like cooked tomatoes. Do a board search - Heather has great info. about fresh tomatoes vs. cooked. I do eat fresh fruit, but not on an empty stomach. I don't peel my fruit anymore. Again, the important thing to remember is how you combine your food. If you are prone to D you have to think about your foods differently. Being IBS C I have to think about how to eat without doubling over in pain from prolong C. For me IF is very important for my diet, but eating it correctly is even more important. I also have GERD's and peppermint does not work well for me - the tea comes right up. I do avoid beef and pork and over time I don't miss it. Once in awhile I crave a hamburger, but I'm very stable at the time eating it. I've found after awhile I gag after eating steak or any pork. Another thing I avoid is dairy and without being tested for it I believe I have an allergy to dairy. Anyone who suffers from GERD's or IBS should avoid dairy and find a good substitute. For me dairy causes C and without the boards I would have never figured it out. Medications I take everyday are Prilosec, Paxil, multi. vitamin and Calcium with vitamin D and magnesium. I take Levsin as needed. I stopped taking a fiber supplement a year ago - I found I was more bloated and gassy. I tried 3 different kinds and all 3 had the same effect. I WILL NOT advise anyone else to do this. It works for me. I hopped I helped you after rambling on. Good luck and always feel free to e-mail me. Barb

Hi Barb, Yeah, I found that very informative. Right now I'm on Prevacid,Paxil,multi-vitamin, and just started magnesium. You've found IF is that crucial eh...After reading Heather's book I backed off it about a month and a half ago, and have been getting worse since then. Maybe that's the key, or a least a key. The mag citrate I took yesterday seems to be helping today, and I'm hoping it continues. Thanks again. -Bob

part of your daily diet. Heather does not tell people not to eat IF, only time you should avoid it all together is when you are having an attack.
The impt. thing to remember is you should have a SF base meal before you eat IF. I would never eat fresh fruit or veggies without eating a meal first. That is why I eat IF with my oatmeal because oatmeal is SF. Eating dried cranberries or raisins with oatmeal not only adds flavor, but it is enough to help me get things moving internally.
I hope I'm clear about the IF. Also that is why SFS is great for most IBS'ers, because it provides the soluble base before eating.

Hi Barbara, Yeah, I think slacked off on IF too much.Right now I'm eating a one cup bowl of raisin bran an hour after my bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and I'm eating an apple with skin at the end of lunch, and peas and some IF bread at the end of dinner. Thanks for your advice! -Bob
