Cornmeal is mentioned as a safe ingredient- is this b/c corn is insoluble fiber on the outside and soluble on the inside and this form minimizes the insol and maximizes the sol? I am dying to make polenta. Also, I too am trying to increase whole grains, but am a little hesitant. Figure I will try a little with regular white rice to be safe. What is the consensus on brown rice, quionoa, barley, etc. Everything gives me gas and then the cycle begins. I have trouble eating soy, eggs b/c of this same problem.

Hi - You're exactly right about the cornmeal, and why it's safe. So enjoy your polenta (and cornbread!)
Brown rice, quinoa, barley, and oatmeal tend to be the safest whole grains for IBS. But...not everyone can tolerate them. Introduce just one at a time and see how you do. The odds are good, just not perfect. White rice is practically a guaranteed winner if you're unsure about trying to start the whole grains right away. Better to be safe and get yourself really stable, and then expand your options.
For the gas, try fennel or caraway tea. Also, using Beano can really help, especially with proteins like soy and egg whites.
