Is cherry pie filling safe? I want to make bush pies while camping and don't want to set off an attack. If not what pie fillings would be ok? Thanks. FYI Bush pies are made with a special two piece iron. You put in a buttered slice of bread on each side, put pie filling in the middle (or whatever) and close the maker. You then cook it in th fire till the bread is toasted. It's super yummy. In the past we've also made them with ham and cheese but not this time. *sigh*

Hi - Cherries are pretty high in insoluble fiber. Peeled peaches or apricots would be a better bet. Peeled cooked apple slices would work well too.

Watch out for the butter on the bread - can you try using a light coating of cooking oil spray instead?
